Title: Let's Talk About Hair
LynnMcG - January 10, 2006 08:47 PM (GMT)
I seriously need a hair cut and color, which got me thinking about hair.
Do you have your hair cut? How often? Where do you go? Do you color it? What do you use? Do you blow dry it every day? Any tricks, tips or secrets you want to share with us?!

At the moment, I get my hair cut about every two weeks. I am growing out dye (it is almost gone! Hooray!).
After the dye is gone, I will only trim at the nape until all the layers catch up with each other, and then back to my twice-a-year trim schedule!
I am going to try to wait on altering the color until my hair is all one length, so that the light reflects from it properly and I can see what the color is. It has sadly darkened a bit since I saw it last (I've been dyeing my hair for the past three years). When ash blonde darkens, it doesn't turn brown. It looks slightly greyish in some lights, and I really don't like it! Lush (www.lush.com) sells a hair treatment that is supposed to brighten up blonde hair just a bit, and there are Lush stores here in Seoul, so I may get that as soon as I am mentally strong enough to go to Myeong-dong! I hate crowds.
I don't use any heat on my hair, and I'm really careful to use a seamless comb and hair-safe clips.
Right now I am using shampoo and conditioner on my hair because I am lazy and my hair reacts differently when it is short, but I have used lots of different methods to keep my hair clean. For awhile I used only herbs, and for a couple of months I participated in an experiment to see if the scalp will normalize on its own if it's just rinsed with cool water. Actually I cheated a bit and used rosemary oil on my scalp because it's prone to breakouts; just put a few drops in a misting bottle with filtered water, and put some on my scalp every morning before putting my hair up in my customary bun. My hair and scalp was at absolute best that way, and I can't wait to get back to it (waiting until my hair can go into a ponytail because it does get oily for the first week until the scalp normalizes).
You know, I could talk hair forever. I've been a member at LHC (www.longhaircommunity.com) for almost two years now.

I don't go often enough to get my hair trimmed...it's due now, actually! The last time I got it cut was for my sister's wedding, which was at the end of October!!
I never blow it dry or use any styling products. I color it myself, and it's due for that too...I just realized that's one thing I forgot to get at the store today!! :wall:

Mandy, there's this book called "Curly Girls" that teaches how to manage wavey or curly hair. Well, in this book they advocate a soap-less approach too. It's neat. They use a similar herbal spritz to freshen up the scalp. I have a friend who's been following their advice for at least a year. She hasn't put shampoo in her hair since she started and you would never know it!
Like I said in that other thread, I started going gray at 18, so I've been coloring my hair regularly for quite a while. I use Garnier Nutrise, which is the BEST hair color I've ever used. My stylist tells me not to tell people I color my hair because it looks so natural. The best part, is I have highlights from all the gray absorbing the color differently.
I need a hair cut. I don't cut my hair as often as I did when I was working out of the house. My hair used to be straight, but became wavey when I got pregnant, so it's a whole new head of hair for me. I finally have a cut I love (a shag). It works great for the shape of my head and texture/look of my hair.

I bought "Curly Girl" for my curly-headed cousin :) Her hair has improved a lot since she started using just conditioner, and some oil has helped it a lot too.
I noticed when I made sure my hair had enough moisture (wasn't just coated with silicones) it completely changed type---instead of stick straight, it was wavy!

Isn't that a neat book!?
I tried not washing my hair, but couldn't do it. I did, however, use her tips to style my hair. I never brush mine anymore and when I do dry it, I only use the difuser. My "hair handling" and cut totally changed how my hair looks.

Mu husband trms my hair whenever I think it needs it. I have never colored it--my hair is naturally a very bright red. And I have never permed ir and I don't use styling products. My hair is naturall a little wavy/curly...I have noticed that in the winter when it is very dry, my hair tends to get very straight..I'd like to check out that Curly Girl book...
I do not wash it every day because it would dry out BAD! I don'thave a lot of natural oils and dryness is a problem...

I hate my hair. I have always considered it my worst feature. It is very thin and fine so it takes a lot of work to make it look nice. I have to use about 3-4 products on it and and blow it dry every day just to make it look presentable.
