As a few of you know, DH and I just moved into a new apartment. We are on the ground level of this brand new unit, actually we are the first ones to live in this actual one so everything is really nice... except our neighbors.
We have a 3 year old living above us. ALL DAY LONG the kid runs back and forth through the hallway right above us. It seriously sounds like he's going to come through the ceiling. And it's not like it's just a quick run to the living room or anything, it's a constant run for hours at a time. I'm going out of my mind.
We went to the leasing office people and told them about it. We explained how we understood that 3 year olds are going to run, but if he's running that much, then the mother needs to take him outside to the play area or something. They said they would put a note on their door to "keep the noise down".
Well, all last week it was really pretty enjoyable, you could barely tell a child lived above us, it was great. Well, the past two days while I sit at home and DH is at work the kid is back to running a marathon above me.
I seriously want to cry, I was hoping I would get used to it and not even notice it anymore, but with every step I'm getting more and more frustrated.
I need a job so I'm not here all day hearing it!
Sounds like this is something that won't change. I try to take these kinds of things and use them to teach me patience and mercy. Its mega hard, but patience is one of the fruits of the spirit and for us to learn them is very good and will benefit us spiritually... Of course before getting to the point of acceptance I would go through all kinds of anger irritation and frustration..Is it cold where you live? Maybe that's why they don't take the kid outside? Maybe when it is time to renew your lease you could move to another unit..Or have you started pouding on your ceiling? Let them know the kid is bothering you..I hope it gets better..
Try wearing some of these too:
Where we live it's been at least 60 degrees out every day since we moved in (2 weeks ago). So the temperature definitely isn't prohibiting anyone from going outside.
As for moving when our lease is up, yup, we will be but that isn't for another year so we don't have the option to leave before then really. And even if we could, we just moved to this area so we aren't familiar enough with it to buy a house yet to get away from it.
I guess I'm just really frustrated because it's like they don't care that anyone lives below them.
Moving to Mississippi from Ohio I guess we expected people to be nicer or something, the whole Southern thing. But we've found that people here are actually more disrespectful and rude than we've ever experienced. It's kind of disappointing.
And as for the whole patience thing, since it's been two weeks, I'm still going through the anger, irritation, and frustration portion I suppose
OH TRUST me, I know what you're talking about!! I learned the hard way after my first couple of apartments to request one on the topmost floor....I couldn't STAND to hear people stomping around above me....
Is it possible for you to befriend the neighbors? Is it just the mom home during the day? If so, and if she's cooped up in her house all day with a 3 year old, she's probably lonely....maybe you could bring a coffee cake up one morning or something? And once you get to know them, it MIGHT not be so annoying...and she MIGHT be more apt to realize how her little one's running around can get on your nerves...
Just a thought...good luck!!
