Title: Up & Down, Excuses, Excuses

I swear, Andie can postpone actually falling asleep longer than anyone I know!!

She was in bed by 8 tonight, Ty went in & read & cuddled for a few, but he was out by 8:15...I think she FINALLY crashed at 9:30!!

First time she came out, she said she "lost her blankie"...that was my fault, it was laying right here by me on the floor, I'd forgotton to put it in bed with her. Second time, she "was so scared" as she ran giggling back to her room...

I don't want to resort to threats (even tho it's come down to that a few times...). I'm thinking on doing a variation on the "jewel jar"....only using artifical flowrs and a vase. Put a flower in for every good thing she does, take a flower out for every negative. When all the flowers are in, get a big reward....like the Children's Museum or something...

So every time she gets out of bed for a procrastination reason, she'll have to take OUT a flower....

Just thinking out loud here...who else has/had this problem? How'd you handle it?

Kat does that sometimes too. Her favorite excuse is "I had a bad dream". Well, Kid, that might just be believable if you had actually gone to sleep! Usually she gets one warning and then it's trouble...

Andie too! Why are these kids so darn smart???

The warnings don't seem to be working. I tell her "Next time you get out of bed, you get a swat." and SHE says, "OK, then, what about the NEXT time???" :wall:

I went through this tonight.

I put Rachel in her crib at 8:45pm. This was after I read her a book, and give her a cookie with some warm milk.

So before I can leave the room, she says, "Daddy! Rub my back!" (It's her obsession to get a back rub when she's in bed).

So I do it until she's pacified and I leave.

Back to the computer for me... then I hear, "Daddy! Rub my baaaccckk!!"

So I go back to her room, and rub her back. She seems alright now. Back to the computer.

Next, "Daddy!! Somethings in my nose!!"

Argh!

No boo-boo. Just a bad camera effect.

I didn't have the flash on the camera, so my aperture settings sucked. Not enough light with an SLR camera causes a 'delayed' look in the picture, so she kinda looks like she's moving in slow motion.

As for time, I'm the lucky one. My wife will go days without seeing her sometimes. I'm the one she sees everyday.

Sounds like my oldest....her big excuse is "I need a drink of water"...now which parent in their right mind will refuse basic subsistence to their kids...she's wise beyond her years I tell you...

And Red, I gotcha with the back thingy bro...my kids are homeschooled so they like me to test them by having me "tickle" numbers and letters on their backs to see if they can guess which ones they are...keeps them WIDE awake but puts me out like a light....

andiesmama - January 10, 2006 12:24 PM (GMT)
Oh the water thing I stopped in it's tracks....she has one of those spill-proof straw cups that I put in bed with her, full of ice & a little water, so she's got it handy ALLLLLL through the night....sooooo, she's had to come up with more "ingenious" excuses....

My daughter jsut started this--She'll be five in March so I guess I'm lucky she didnt start it earlier. The other day she came out of her room and told us her feet were cold! I told her "Well put your feet back under the balmket and they will warm up." She has come into our room when we were in bed_-since we have to get up so earl we go to bed soon after the kids--she came in our room and i was about to turn off the lights and she told me she's not tired.

I just told her that I am tired and I am going to bed. You'll be all alone if you stay up..Just go lay down on your bed and "rest"
