I'm potty-training my two year old. (something tells me Squat is going to pick up on that sig...)

That means I've got a small load every day of pee and poop soiled panties...

how's that going, Clay...I forgot you said you were gonna get started with that after the first of the year...

Well, I get her there every :30 minutes. Sometimes we make it, sometimes we don't. If she's dry and can't go, we go back in :15. It makes it rough on big sister's lessons, but it's gotta be done.

Overall we're doing pretty good. She was doing pretty good before we were stuck in the car for 16 hours evacuating for Hurricane Rita in September. In fact, she was wearing a diaper because of the slow going (read: 22 miles in 16 hours) and didn't want to go in the diaper. She kept saying "Potteeeeee!" We told her just to go in the diaper. She got very comfortable with it, and regressed.

So, we had to start all over. She fought it hard, so we waited until now.

That's how we did it....I started out in 20 min increments, then when she stayed dry, upped it to 30, etc....

For the life of me, I can't remember how long it took with Nichole. 'Course, Mama was doing most of the work. I had a job back then...

How long did it take with Andie?

I think it took her about a full week before she got the true idea of the whole going on the potty & staying dry thing....for awhile after that, if I didn't take her to the potty, she'd tend to forget, especially while she was playing or something.

A couple months or so, actually, until she was truly telling me she had to go & being more "aware", ya know? And I STILL have her in pullups for nap & night time, although here lately she's been dry so I might get brave & chuck them, at least for nap time....

Ugh, I don't wanna talk about potty training.

I am frustrated beyong belief trying to potty train Rachel.

She avoids doing anything on the potty on purpose. When she has to poo, she runs off hiding somewhere so she can do it without me seeing her straining her face.

It's ridiculous.

Same with Sean. I'll smell him and find him hunkered down in the corner. When I find him he tells me to go away. Drives me nuts. He was going on the potty and now he won't.

The thing is, he still wakes up wet. And it doesn't seem to matter when he has his last drink or if he goes on the potty before he goes to bed. Now with my daughter, she woke up dry at 18 months. Sean is 3.

Sarah was completely potty trained at 3 1/2. No night time accidents, maybe an occasional poopie accident but that was because she was "too busy" to go. Sean just doesn't seem to mind the feeling of wet pants. AND bribery isn't working. He just doesn't care.

Very frustrating.

well.....are you guys keeping them in diapers? Or keeping them (Rachel & Sean) in big girl/boy undies? Because Andie was the same way in diapers....it didn't bother her in the least if they were wet. But regular panties, now, THAT was a different story....

Once I'm home with her, I guess I'm guilty of keeping her in her diapers. I'll put her in her panties once in a while (usually on the weekends) but I just get really peeved with the pee spot on the carpet.

If she poops, it's not so bad if she busts out a turd, but when it's the mushy stuff... aawww maaaannn!!!

well....consistency is the key. There are gonna be messes, but if you totally stick with it & suffer through it, she'll get the hang of it. Going from panties one day for a little while to diapers another day is just confusing! But it's easy for me to say, being a SAHM....I just decided on a day to do it (happened to be a Friday) & went with it.

Also, how old is Rachel? Like 2 1/2? I started with Andie when she was even a couple months older than that, and I think THAT might've been a month or two early....

Yeah, she'll be 3 at the end of April.

I think I have a problem with comparing her progress to that of her classmates. I bump into some parents at her pre-school who tell me that their kids are already using the potty/toilet and I'm like, "Wow..."

But some of them also say that they have older kids as well... so the toddlers can fashion themselves after their older siblings.

when she's ready, it'll happen....if it doesn't work once, wait a month & try again...but REALLY give it a chance, ya know what I mean? Take a weekend with NO diapers, do the every 20 min thing, rewards, all that good stuff & see what happens....
