How do you know when you've hit menopause? What is perimenopause?
My periods of late have been 3 days long. 2 almost heavy days, then one slightly normal day then just spotting. They're obviously diminishing. But how do you know when you've hit meno or perimeno? :dunno:

all right, I went to webmd.com & found some stuff.
| QUOTE |
Perimenopause means "around menopause." It refers to the 2 to 8 years of changing hormone levels—and the symptoms they cause—leading up to menopause. The most common sign of perimenopause is longer, often irregular menstrual cycles that are caused by hormonal ups and downs.
Most women start perimenopause between ages 39 and 51. |
Oh, and here are some sypmtoms of menopause according to webmd (sounds like fun! :puke: ):
| QUOTE |
Hot flashes. Sleep disturbances (insomnia). Emotional changes, such as mood swings or irritability. A change in sexual interest or response. Problems with concentration and memory that are linked to sleep loss and fluctuating hormones (not a permanent sign of aging).8 Headaches. Rapid, irregular heartbeats (heart palpitations). Generalized itching. |
Here's the
LINK for the whole article.

LOL
It's funny though how many things cause symptoms like that. Mine aren't from PMS and they sure as HECK aren't from menopause...
It makes me wonder how doctors ever diagnose anything!

Really and how do they know its menopause you're going through instead of smething else with all those symptoms--short of testing. Really those symptoms are very general and apply to many things..

Yeps. Like I mentioned, I have all of those except the first and last, but they are from PTSD. Worlds away from menopause (which is a very good thing considering my age! My MOM isn't even menopausal yet).

Well, you've gotta take your age & stuff into consideration....if you click on the link and check out the whole article, menopause is when you haven't had your period for a year....so of course if you're having those symptoms that are listed under menopause and are still getting your period, then yeah, it's something else! B)
And as for perimenopause, the article said the age range is anywhere from 39-51...

Most of the time, even a doctor can't tell where you are in terms of menapause. There are steps you can take to alieviate symptoms, but in reality, it's simply a journey we'll all have to take.
I think the real kicker, will be when we start to get hot flashes.
Lena, you're cycle may very well just have changed. No biggie. It happens sometimes. They say our bodies can change every 7 years, so why not a cycle duration?
