Any Olympic fans here?

I'm more of a Summer Olympics person, but I'll take some time out to watch some of the Winter stuff as well.

Go Canada!

I doubt they'll be stopping them soon.

What's on your mind re: the olympics? Too much cheating or not enough attention?

Love the Winter olympics! Hate the summer stuff--too hot for me! Sadly I live in Oklahoma...we could've worn shorts three days ago and it got near freezing last night...

they never interested me....

I think sports get too much airtime as it is...

That I can agree with. Most sports--like American football(which is absolutely stupid--there are only about two seconds of foot contact with that ball the entire game!!!STOOPID!) do get way too much air time ant attention. Bobsledding on the other had is really neat! Or maybe I just really liked that movie Cool Runningss...? :dunno:

But even looking at all those people baking in the thousand degree heat makes me uncomfortable. And the sweat--eeeew! Besides things done on snow and ice looks neat for the fact that it is on snow or ice.. ..Maybe I'm wierd?

I agree with you when it comes to your basic professional sports.

Baseball
Hockey
Football
Basketball
Golf (is that a sport?)

But the Olympics is on a whole 'nother level for me. It's not about teams and who's making how much money. It's all amateur and it's about the individual, as opposed to the team.

I think what draws me so much closer to the Olympics is the fact that it's international. It's not about your same old blah blah Joe America. It's men, women, adults, children. Big country, small country.

And when you get to see the people from the small countries winning events, it's just amazing. :bounce:

Last time I watched Olympics they were in Lake Placid - in 1980. 'Course, I did tune in to the news broadcasts when Freakface blew up Atlanta...

I like both Olympics...I like the downhill ski jump thing...the snowboarding competitions are amazing to watch! I like the bobsledding & luge...

Summer Olympics I like the diving, and the gymnastic competitions.

Like I said, I'm a much bigger fan of Summer Olympics (being a former track athlete), but here are the Winter games that I watch

Favourite Winter Olympic Events
  • Speed Skating
  • Bobsled
  • Luge (singles, not double... that's gay)
  • Ski Jump
  • Figure Skating (I know, sounds gay, but for anyone to have the ability to jump in the air a rotate 3.5 times is simply amazing to me)

I like figure skating. That's it. Sometimes skiing...only to watch them wipe-out, tho. That can look so nasty! :haha:

I watched figure skating while in labour with my kids.

Stringaling - January 9, 2006 07:05 PM (GMT)
I love the figure skating most, too.

I think you just like saying the girls fall on their butts after they attempt a triple-axel.

I love winter olympics. Skiing, skating, snow boarding...

Hey, I have a friend who's a two-time Olympic athlete (CANADIAN!). She played Field Hockey on the Canadian team.

I was petitioning to add Bacci Ball to the summer olympics when I was in college...never went anywhere though.

I love to watch figure skating and gymnastics. That's it though. Even though I liked Cool Runnings also.

Redguard - January 13, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
Cool Runnings was filmed in the same area in Jamaica where I was born. :)
