Title: Questions, Yay!
Mandy - November 30, 2005 06:55 AM (GMT)
I love answering questions :D Just be careful what you ask, because if it's asked I'm gonna answer it!
clayman - November 30, 2005 07:05 AM (GMT)
Um - ok - how tall are you?
Were you named after a couple with names like Mark and Yolanda?
Mandy - November 30, 2005 07:07 AM (GMT)
I'm 5'3".
I was named after Spock's mother.

There are lots of hair sticks that I would love to get. If I got all of them that I liked, it would be hundreds of dollars though.
And of course I have to wait for my hair to grow out again.

Do you like Barry Manilow?
Have you ever had a fist-fight?
What brand of soap, shampoo/conditioner and hair steroids (sprays/gels) do you use?
Do you wear makeup and is it tested on animals?
When you buy beauty products, do you see visions of starving kids in Africa...
(I'd better stop.... :D )

NO
QUOTE
Have you ever had a fist-fight?
Once, with my little sister (who is five inches taller than me and at that time outweighed me by fifty pounds). She basically held me at arms' length until I calmed down.
QUOTE
What brand of soap, shampoo/conditioner and hair steroids (sprays/gels) do you use?
I use yucca root for shampoo and soap (they sell it at the commissary as food, imagine that), jojoba oil for conditioner, and I boil flax seed for hair gel.
QUOTE
Do you wear makeup and is it tested on animals?
I wear mineral makeup which is tested on people.
QUOTE
When you buy beauty products, do you see visions of starving kids in Africa...
Nope. I spend so little on beauty products...much less than my friend from South Africa spends. We both know how it feels to not have enough food, but right now we're so happy to have extra money for makeup that we don't think about better uses for the money. We probably should...

Would you believe it, I'd never heard of her before a couple years ago? I've never seen her show or anything. I just like making my own stuff, because then I know what's in it. Plus it's a lot cheaper and tends to work better.
The time I spend on thinking up recipes I should spend on housework though. I am ashamed to admit that I am a complete disorganized wreck.

What was the last sport you played and when?
Mimes - Valued Entertainment - Necesary Evil - or Evidence that Satan is among us?
Spam - it's not just for breakfast anymore - Valued food product, or toilet brick?
That's all I can think of for the moment....
Mandy - December 2, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
Not counting high school PE, in eighth grade I played soccer for the community team. I think they breathed a sigh of relief when I moved away :D
I like mimes. I don't see why people are annoyed by them.
Spam, however, might be Satan's handiwork.

I loved it! I am a true country girl. Living in Seoul is killing me! I miss the space, and the REAL mountains (not these little hills they call mountains), and the small towns. I mean the state's so small that you can sometimes ask complete strangers if they know anybody from such and such a town, and it's possible you have friends in common.
I don't miss the prairie dogs though. The University of Wyoming's married housing is infested with them.

My folks tell me I've been to Wyoming. Since high school I've been all around it but never there. Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado -- if Wyoming's half as beautiful as those places, it is most definitely God's country.
There's a sign in Hondo, Texas that reads "This is God's country. Please don't drive through it like hell." That sign's been there for twenty-five years!

That's a good sign!
To tell you the truth, half of Wyoming is gorgeous, and the other half is ugly. Some people would say that half of the half that I think is gorgeous is ugly, but I grew up in the deserty part and I like it :D
But the south-western part of the state is ugly.
Idaho is lovely; have you been to Moscow? We went to a church conference there and fell in love with the place. It's one of the few places outside of Wyoming that we could see ourselves living in.
clayman - December 2, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
On my bus trip from Seattle to Idaho Falls for Christmas, 1988, Greyhound took me through Couer d'Alene to Butte and then down to Idaho Falls. I didn't make it to Moscow. But I did see the Grand Tetons - and they are GRAND!
I grew up in Vegas, so I'd have to side with you -- the deserty part is the prettiest!

Oh, I thought you meant body part in general :D
Kenneth Branagh is a Shakespearian actor, and I believe he directs some of the film versions as well. I liked him best in Hamlet; he's a genius! Unfortunately, he's good enough that I actually understand the lewd jokes that Shakespeare wrote into most of the plays *shudder*
Thank you for your prayers.

Are you involved with your church? (Besides sitting in the pew.) What do you do?
Mandy - December 6, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
I haven't been to church since last year. We kept meaning to look for a church over here, but just haven't made it, and now our counseling appointments are on Sunday mornings.

Is it difficult getting around in South Korea? Are there enough signs in English to allow you to get around easily?

Is it difficult getting around in South Korea? Are there enough signs in English to allow you to get around easily?
Most of them are in English, but it doesn't help much unless you already know where you are going! It is very...convoluted here.
The first time we took a taxi from the base to our house, we apologized to the driver because we didn't know the address. He told us that no one uses addresses here, because it just doesn't help.
In fact, he said "If you give an address, you must be a stranger---you must be from North Korea." :haha:
But thank God for taxi drivers. I didn't realize that one of the subway stations away from our house closed early, and I ended up stranded. I had no money with me, so I walked around by myself, at 1 am, hauling a rolling suitcase (we were moving to another apartment). Finally a taxi driver stopped and offered to take me home, even though I didn't have any money.
God looks after fools and children...

Where in South Korea are you? Military or otherwise?
I remember Korea being quite nice -- though, as you mentioned, those were hills not mountains -- in October, 1989.
I spent two days in Chin Hae. Most of the guys from the ship caught a bus to Pusan, but I stuck around in a little tiny town with few people that spoke English. In fact, the only local I met that did speak English was the Mamasan at a bar where I consumed massive amounts of something called Oscar.....

We're in Seoul. My husband is military, and I am a student.
Hmmm, don't know where Chin Hae is, but I want to make it to Pusan before I go back to the States. I hear there are beaches there. Beaches full of people in full body suits, trying not to get a tan..... B)

Nah, that's just what sailors call every woman that runs a bar in the west Pacific!
The folks in Korea were very nice. When I left the states, I swore I would eat only local food. No McD's, Pizza Hut or anything else. In Chin-Hae, there was no American food. I found a little hole in the wall and the only English they understood was "Coke". Not bad, the only Korean I knew was "Kim-chee".
So, I went to this place, looked at the menu board and held up two fingers. Whatever number two was, I ordered it along with kim-chee and a Coke. I still have no idea what it was, but it tasted pretty good. I did know how to use chopsticks, so I didn't have to ask them for a fork. My buddies weren't so fortunate. They had to try and ask for a fork without knowing the words.
How much longer is the tour?

Fork in Korean is a funny word---it sounds like "poke-ah." Nothing to do with the word "poke," it's just that Korean doesn't have the "f" sound, and they frequently drop "r" sounds.
What you ate, was it in a bowl, like a stew? That's bibimbop. If it was wrapped in a leaf, it's bulgogi. And if it was wrapped in seaweed, it's kimbop.
99% of South Korea lives on these dishes, accompanied of course by kimchi and rice. And soju. Evil soju.
We're here until August. We were going to stay for three years (last two are voluntary), but my husband is getting homesick.
