Title: Menopause

I know...I know...I think I'm the oldest gal on here, most of you probably haven't even thought about menopause yet! lol
But pushin' 40 (this year...YIKES!!) I've begun thinking about it....toughin' it out vs HRT (hormone replacement treatment ie: drugs) vs natural remedies.
I don't know that I'll want to tough it out....probably couldn't take the mood swings (neither could my family!! ) and I've heard horror stories about the hot flashes!! :yikes: My first instinct is to go with natural remedies, the HRT has too many bad side effects, IMO.

Can't say this has been on my mind  but if I was you I would definitely try to herbal remedies first. Doesn't seem sensible to me to try the HRT if the herbal stuff will work.

I say go herbal...but that's just me...

Herbal in my opinion too...but then I've got years before I have to think about it :D
One of my teachers in high school had to go off her medication because it was causing heart problems, and she said drinking lots of soy milk helped with hot flashes and such.

yeah...I'm leaning towards the herbal thing, too. I guess I need to start reading up on it so I can "be prepared"....

Just knowing where the HRT comes from grosses me out enough to seek a natural remedy. YUCK
I've been thinking about this too Debby. I'm going to talk to my Gyno to see what he thinks. Who knows what could develop by the time we're ready for treatment (I'm believing it's going to be AT LEAST another 10 years!).

I have a while yet, but I definately will try herbal first..About what age does it start? How long is it supposed to last? I am totally ignorant of this stuff..
andiesmama - January 9, 2006 06:39 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna check into it & find out when I need to start REALLY thinking about it....also, I'm sure, it depends on what age your mom & her mom started....family history & all that...
