Yeah! Eliminate the emails!

Seriously, the emails just annoyed me. I did the daily digest. If you go to the site and print out everything she says to print out, you'll have everything you need. I keep checklists in my Palm pilot (morning, nighttime, etc). Once you get the hang of it, it really, really works. I found that the zone cleaning and crisis cleaning were what I needed to get rid of clutter in my house. But every once in a while, I still need to crisis clean to get the house in shape.

Oh, I also use the kids to help. They love the whole timer thing and the dusters. They think it's funny.

Erm, no. I know how to clean my own house, thanks. :P

andiesmama - December 30, 2005 02:12 PM (GMT)
I don't subscribe to it anymore, but I've taken alot of her hints with me...a "shiny sink", etc.

I also do the 15 minute thing...kinda...and I know the hotspots in the house so I make extra effort to keep those picked up. I made a cleaning schedule and I pretty much stick to it so I don't get totally overwhelmed.

I should go back in there, because she really helped me think about deep-cleaning stuff I didn't think of normally....like light switches, knobs on the stove, etc....

My walls are pathetic! I mean, they're bad! So bad that scrubbing them doesn't help anymore....so...this spring I'm going painting. Starting the new year off with taking things down off the wall and putting nicknacks away. Then I'll feel better about my house.

I've never had the discipline to follow through on all of FlyLady's advice but I think she's really got it figured out. The Shiny Sink thing alone made a big difference in my life (expect when I stopped doing it.)

Honey - December 30, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
Shiny Sink? What's that anyway? I mean, is that a phrase or something?

Stringaling - December 30, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
Flylady says to keep your sink shiny. Make sure to clean and dry it before you go to bed every night and every time you use it. It is one thing you can do to help make your kitchen at least look cleaner....

I'll let the more experienced gals take this one :)

Oh really? That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard. It's just natural for me to rub it down after it's been used. It's not ALWAYS shiny, but it's good enough.

andiesmama - December 30, 2005 06:24 PM (GMT)
I think she's going more for the "concept"...at least, that's how I take it...I'm in the habit now of keeping my kitchen sink clean & empty, as well as the countertops in the kitchen...do it before I go to bed...so at least when I wake up in the morning there's ONE room that's semi-tidy!

But she also goes a step further in cleaning the sink (I'm not sure if she does it every day, I do it about once a week)....fill it up with hot water & some bleach, let it sit, drain it, then use windex & spray it on sink & faucet, wipe off....that's for the stainless ones, anyways...it sure does look great when I'm done with that!!

Lucky you. It's natural for me to let it pile up with dishes.
