There really are a lot of foods that can kill your training. Even if you're eating healthy foods, if you're eating either too much, too little, not often enough...those things (as well as other things) also kill your training.
I think it's important to recognize what metabolic typing you are and eat as close to that as possible. In layman's terms, if your body requires more proteins & fats, and you give it more carbs than it wants, it's going to cause imbalances in your body. Those imbalances could be a lowered immune system, heart disease, diabetes, allergies, hormonal issues, poor injury recovery, bodyfat gain, and a host of other things.
People ought to educate themselves about their bodies, nutrition, exercise, etc. Every single person is different. What may work for you, may not necessarily hold true for me. If so, why? It's important to know those details.
When one eats, one should enjoy what they eat, but to eat to live, not as many people do - live to eat. When we choose foods, I'm learning to view food as, "Will this food provide me with energy, give my body good nourishment it needs to do these things, help me to be healthier, etc?" If it doesn't, then I don't want to be putting trash into my body. Do I ever? Yes. But, when I think of it in those terms rather than it's bad for me, it makes it so much easier to forsake those foods. All foods are allowable to me, whether they help my body or not. It's just a matter of whether I want to make that choice and deal with the consequences of that choice.

I thought I answered the question Squat.
If after a workout, all I eat is an apple, that does not help me as much as making sure I get some good protein. I've found a good whey protein or a liquid meal replacement to be more easily absorbed into the body. I use Champion Whey. I'll be using Full Strength for my MRS. But, I will always choose real foods, if those are available, over anything processed, even good wheys or MRS.
Really, as far as junk food, I really don't want to eat junk food, as they serve no purpose in promoting a healthy body, mind, and spirit. I would have to say these are not temptations to me.
I've found when I eat every 2-3 hours a sufficent amount of calories and the macro ratio that is right for me, no foods are tempting to me. Yesterday my husband was eating Pringles. In the past, Pringles is one of my favorite chips. Later, he baked chocolate chip cookies and the house smelled really good. I have loved chocolate chip cookies - homemade. Neither were a temptation for me because I know what the ingredients are in those foods, and they do not serve a purpose in helping me with my goals or promoting health in my body. I did not condemn my husband or even say anything.
I enjoyed the fact that all I had to be concerned about was EACH particular choice. No need to worry about tomorrow or later. Food is not an obsession for me. I typically use it for fuel, health, nourishment.
Just eat incorrectly for your body, and that will kill your training.

Pasta and sugary things are my worst. Oh, and caffeine. Those three things totally wreck my blood sugar, destroying all my energy and causing me to eat more.
