Title: I Want A Laptop
Redguard - November 29, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)
I'm REALLY feeling those widescreen laptops. I've been dying for a new computer. There are a lot of games that I want to play but my system can't handle them.
My computer sometimes struggles just handling my Photoshop files.
What kind of systems are you all working on?

Now, if you wanna laptop that will play games & handle those large files - get our your checkbook cause those are pricey.
Now, for a PC - not too bad.
My PC at home is a Athlon 64bit 3200+ processor w/ 1GB of RAM & 250GB Primary HD & 200GB secondary H/D. Kind of a weak graphics card - GFORCE 5500. A 19'LCD.

If you've got the Benjamins, I'd go this route...
http://www.pctorque.com/sager-9890-gaming-computers.phpBTW...Shoot GR...you weak system blows mine away...you play games on an LCD...doesn't that hurt?
I have two...one on each side of house..no WIFI...crawled the filthy attic with CAT5 on my own.
My old handbuilt is a TBird 800, 640Ram, 40GB...with my in-laws hand me down Dell 19" CRT.
I didn't have time to build my newest...so I went Dell (bad move but the price was good)...anyway its a P4HT 3.0 ghz, 120GB, DVD+R, 512Ram, 5200 GForce, 19" Flat CRT...

Why would the LCD hurt when playing games? I love it.
I have a Toshiba laptop that I got last t-giving for $300. Low on RAM - but it does the job. I mostly use that for surfin' - e-mail - and some other junk. I have the wi-fi setup in the house so - all is good.
Also, got the Vonage last year....LOVE IT! Anyone w/ broadband - I suggest goin' w/ it.
For my next purchase - if I EVER have the money - is either gunna be an Alienware PC and/or a Mac.

Hubby builds all our computers and right now we are running 3 PCs and a laptop. We have one each and a server to hold our data and hubby's also working on building a PC for the truck and one for our daughter. Here's a rough overview of what we have:
Hubby's PC
- MSI 694D Pro motherboard
- Dual P3 933 chips
- 1GB RAM
- ATI All In Wonder 9600 XT video card with 128mb DDR
- (2) 80GB hard drives for a total of 160GB
Server PC
- MSI 694D Pro motherboard
- Dual P3 933 chips
- 1GB RAM
- 4 port IDE expension with RAID
- (4) 200GB hard drives and (1) 20 GB hard drive for a total of 420GB
- Dual ethernet cards
My PC
- MSI 694D Pro motherboard with RAID
- Dual P3 933 chips
- 1GB RAM
- (1) 20GB hard drive, (1) 60GB hard drive and (1) 80 GB hard drive for a total of 160GB
The only thing I'd really like for my computer is some more RAM. I'm the kind of person that likes to have 20 browser windows open, my Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro and WinAmp running at the same time and after a few days running like that my comp gets a little slow LOL

Bought a HP zd7000 last year.. widescreen laptop that has a numberpad just like a real keyboard.... I despise normal sized laptop keyboards...
Right now that laptop is the most powerful (well will be when I buy a new power adapter now it's a paperweight) in my home...
I miss internet at home...
I miss games....
Ah well I'll get them back in time....
Laptop specs
3.06 GHZ Processor
1 Gig Mem
Built in Wireless card
GeForce 9600 - I think - graphics card

refresh rates, sharpness, response time, etc.
Common knowledge that CRT's are better for gaming than LCDs...do a Google Search.
I've never gamed on an LCD but imagine the difference is slight...
Best thing about LCD's, IMHO are their weight...they kinda hurt my eyes.
Anyway...

I have a Sony Vaio laptop I bought in 12/2002. Love it.
Intel P4, 2.80 GHz
60 GB
1024 MB SDRAM
Wireless Card
15" XGA TFT screen
It would be nice to have a widescreen. I'll probably get another laptop sometime next year. This laptop is a bit heavy. I also need to replace my desktop.
We have 1 other laptop and 2 desktops also.
One desktop is a Sony Vaio, the other laptop an IBM Thinkpad, and a Compaq Presario (from '98 -- so ancient).

I just bought a dell Inspiron 6000 and I love it so far. I was told to keep the processor small so that It saves on the battery, I have a 1.7GHz P4 and wish that I would have gone 2.0+GHz, but I did go with a min of 1G of memory and a 80G HD with built in wireless and the wide screen. It came with the soft case, mouse and xp media for under $1400. shipped. I was really happy with what I got for the price.
I bought my laptop from dell outlet and applied coupons from couponmountan.com. Some of the coupons didn't work and I just kept cutting and pasting #'s until I found one that did. The only thing was is i had to have the cash right then to get it. Once you find a computer in the outlet they move so fast that the good ones might not be there in the morning.
Good luck
