Description: FYI

Symantec's antivirus software contains a vulnerability that could be exploited by a malicious hacker to take control of a system, the company said late Tuesday.

According to Symantec, the bug, which affects a range of the company's security products, is a "high" risk. Denmark security company Secunia has labeled it "highly critical."

According to an advisory issued by Secunia, the bug affects most of Symantec's products, including enterprise and home user versions of Symantec AntiVirus, Symantec Norton AntiVirus and Symantec Norton Internet Security, across the Windows and Macintosh platforms.

Anyone who knows ANYTHING about computers SHOULD NOT BE USING Norton OR McAfee....please don't confess to your ignorance...just repent...NOW.

I use Kaspersky antivirus and Outpost Pro software firewall...I'm also behind a NAT router....

Yeah - I have a NAT router. I use TrendMicro software.

Think I've heard good things about Trend...

I know Symantec only has 2 year support on their products....

I just read about some dude who paid 20 bucks to update his sigs...and 3 months later, his AV quit working until he updated to the newest and ONLY supported version...of course, he didn't get a refund or a credit of his sig cost...why pay more for sigs?

Bogus...major rapage....

Both vendors heavily market to user ignorance and fill your sytem with major FLUFF.

(I'm gettin' snippy...better get to bed!)

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of McAfee or Symantic. I like Trend - but am gunna switch to Panda Software, I think, when this one is up.

Check out NOD32...

They have VERY LOW resource rate and it works GREAT on older PCs....(note Clay)

If it's a new box...then probably anything should work well....

GutterRat - December 21, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
Is that one of the "free" ones?

squatpuke - December 21, 2005 06:22 PM (GMT)

no....

Has a free trial....

I trial'd for a while and was happy...but found that KAV had a higher detection rate.

THey're both cheaper than the SymanTRICK and HypaFEE....

Panda is another good one, I've heard...never tried it tho.

I used Trend & Panda's online scan when I did consulting. I haven't used Panda either - they do look a bit pricey. I'll check out the one you suggested.
