Title: "Ain't"

Do you correct your kids if they say the word "ain't"?
sf49erfan - June 10, 2008 02:14 PM (GMT)
No, because it has actually come into common usage. It used to be said that "ain't ain't a word" but now it is.

We don't use it at all around here so our kids don't either..But historically(within the last few centuries) the word was a contraction for "am not" and was common and acceptable. Today it is mostly looked down upon as uneducated and backward, but technically it is a word...

My kids don't use it.
If they said it as a joke or for special emphasis I wouldn't say anything. But if they started using it regularly I would.

It's not a word used here - in the Bay Area :P
The kiddo's use 'am not' instead.
I thought it was a southern thing... :dunno:

My kids have been saying it alot lately and I've been correcting them every time I catch them. Candace especially. She'll say it when she's supposed to say "are not". I asked them where they got AIN'T from and they're like, I don't know....so it could just be a phase. It better be only a phase. I don't care for that word hence my cracking down on it now...in the bud. :whip:

I make up words all the time... especially when I've hurt myself but we don't let the kids repeat those......
I have no prob with Ain't...
I hate when people actually say "WTF" instead of What the F... or even what the "F" Double U takes longer to say then what it stands for.....
My wife and older son will speak in IM which pisses me off....

Couple months ago my BIL heard a noise at the door it was their two year old trying to get in their room, he told him to go back to his own bed.... then really quiet, Mike (my BIL) heard the toddler say "Shit" and toddle back off to bed.....
With as often as my hip and knee have been locking up on me lately.. I'll be surprised if Sera's first words aren't "MF" or a longer version thereof
