Stringaling - June 2, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
Am recovering from a migraine that came on about 5:30 this morning. Head still hurthing mildly and this time my fingertips on my left hand went numb for aout 5 minutes. So did the left side of my lips. Is this normal with a migraine? Has anyone eer esxperienced this? I've had a fe migraines, but never with the numbness. Very glad that it lasted for a few minutes only..

Any ideas what causes migraines??

gonna go lay down with my head under covers hiding from light.

I've never had that, nor do I get migraines often, but that doesn't sound normal. :dunno:

Never had that with a migraine...

I have had the numbness thing happen with a cold and ear infection, Swelling in my TMJ caused pressure on facial nerve which actually ended up paralyzing half my face for a few weeks.....

Almost sounds like a mini stroke.... doubtful it was that though....

Any kind of pressure on certain nerves or even the right portions of the brain (which would account for a killer headache too) could account for the numbness.....

Vascular contraction which is often a cause of headaches can cause a lack of blood to get to certain areas of the brain, which also could logically account for the symptoms....

Caffeine is a vascular dilator (which is why it's in "Migraine Strength" headache meds) that could combat the vascular contraction if that's the cause. I'd wait it out a little see how I'm feeling in a couple hours, you however are preggers.. I'd call a doc and see what they think you should do, if it were just your health you could play the waiting gambit, but there's another life on the line here too so you might wanna play it safe....

What causes migraines?

It's actually a condition that is a very close cousin of Epilepsy. Basically it's a misfire of the electrical system of the brain.

Stress can be a major contributor (just like in an epileptic's seizure) certain foods or chemicals in close proximity can also contribute (Sandlewood, pachuli, cigarette smoke are the major non food triggers for mine)

That's the short explanation.....

LONG Explanation of Migraines... but it is a Wiki afterall

Am awaiting call back from the nurse in the office.

I feel tons better now. I think I am over it. Just have the sensitivity remaining. I can move about and do stuff now without too much pain.. :)
