Title: Pregnancy thread for Siege..
Stringaling - May 30, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
Anyone care to give the daddy-to-be (And definately the mommy-to-be) some advice on how to cope with the ups and sowns of his wife's pregnancy?
Honey - May 30, 2008 04:05 PM (GMT)
Sit back, relax and enjoy the show. B)

What?!?! THe show???
How about something more along the lines of :
The first trimester is exhausiting!! Your wife will literally feel like she's run a marathon every day and will need tons of sleep...Let her sleep as much as she needs to. Encourage her to take it easy and rest..
rasplundjr - May 30, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Booze for you TONS of Chocolate for her........
Seriously... Lot's of cuddle time when she needs it, feet and back rubs when she needs it and TONS of Chocolate....
And Mylanta on hand doesn't hurt either from when she's really urpy.... and I think Deb recommends peppermints... Misty seemed to like the peppermints......
Emotional side.. just remember hormones are a bugger.....and keep TONS of Chocolate on hand.....
Be ready for her to go Sybil at some point, she might not my sisters did, Misty a little but not scary Sybil.......
Keneke - May 30, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)
Everyone is different. I was slightly more emotional. Not tired at all with my first. I needed no chocolate or foot rubs or peppermint or ginger. Go with the flow.

Ok, here's one: put on blinders and earplugs unless in the doctor's office. That worked like a charm for me. B)

Seige...
1) throughly check out "The Bradley Method" of childbirth...
Wifey successfully birthed this way 3 times and teaches the method herself....and despite being the worlds BIGGEST SKEPTIC (next to Raspman) I'm sold on drug free birth...
2) Breastfeeding is AWESOME...my nipples NEVER got sore once.
3) Looking back, something I might give more though to is cloth diapers...we used the plastic ones and they were BIG bucks over 8 years....and I'm sure Eric would agree, I've filled up a landfill or two myself...
4) Buy the BEST car-seats that you can
5) Be prepared for a GREAT RIDE.....nothing beats coming home after a hard day to 3 little nuggets screaming "Daddy...Daddy...Daddy"....

No, I think that would be the
"Squat, you're such a dork!" thread.
EVERONE could chime in on that one!

Dental issues. Many pregnant women have dental issues while pregnant. Due to the increased hormones and lowered immuinity, some women experience bleeding gums or other symptoms when normally they're fine. Flossing and swishing every day helps. With me, nothing will make it go away completely until after birth. About a month after mine are born and hormone levels return to a more level, the gums return to a normal healthy state. Have her go to the dentist for a cleaning at least once during the pregnancy to have everything checked out.

Hate to say it but good advice. I'm especially pleased that we cloth diapered our second because with having a third we've just automatically cut our diapering costs in half. Plus the cloth diapers look so much nicer and smell so much better.
BumGenius are the ones we use:

Its very likely that the first trimester she will not feel up to it very often if at all. The second trimester things will pick up, so for now let her be if she's not feeling like it..You'll survive, I promise..
Keneke - May 31, 2008 08:28 PM (GMT)
As for diapers...weigh your options. We're on a water ration on this side of the bay so cloth diapers would've been difficult for us...
I'd say...get ready to get unwanted advice :)

Thanks for the thread String!
There's lots of good advice here. We tend to be a little "hippy" and like to "go green" when we can so we'd considered using cloth diapers but got to thinking about energy usage for the washer and dryer. We could probably hang them to dry so that could cut out the dryer but I've read some articles that say that STILL wastes more energy than disposables... I guess I'll just have to do some more research.
As far as the sex thing goes- we went from every other day to every three to four days... she's tired all the time... I didn't realize how much I got used to the frequency- I guess I'll have to trust String that I'll live until the second trimester... I have my doubts that I will.
The earplugs and blinders thing is a good idea- especially if you are planning on going all natural with your birth plan. Everybody and their brother has advice against this. We're planning on breast feeding (until the kid's on solid foods- we're not into the whole la leche "feed until the child's 15 years old" thing) and we're even researching vaccinations- we feel there are too many given to kids at the wrong times now-a-days. There's also this other thread that's trying to convince us that homeschooling our kids is the only way to educate them properly... ;) j/k!!!
Keep the advice coming!

I remembered that with my first pregnancy I had really sharp abdominal pains. Like almost crippling...Turns out that its common amongst first pregnancies. The tendons or ligaments that support the uterus have to stretch when the uterus grows in size and weight and that stretching can be painful!!!
rasplundjr - June 6, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
remember when wifey asks you to pass the baby the proper response isn't "Okay go long" .... Misty grounded me for that one.....

She should start feeling better around 12-14 weeks.. For me this time it was closer to 14 weeks. First time I was sick and yucky for 5 months! I hope it goes smoother for her...

Oh, yeah, and she may go up a cup size or two but that doesn't give you free reign to be grabby!! THEY HURT!! Be very careful and gentle!!!!!!! Or else you're liable to get :box:
