From a title such as GRAND THEFT AUTO what would make anyone think this is anything BUT a violent crime filled game?


I laugh whenever I hear anyone say they didn't expect it to be like that.... Hello the name is a major felony.....

We don't have Video Games at home. None :)
I wasn't expecting the characters, etc to look so realistic. It was just too violent AND realistic for me :)

Rockstar is known for their over the top violence and groundbreaking graphics

Like a Rockstar they push the boundaries and live for the drama...

In San Andreas there is an addin (don't know if it was made by rockstar or by a third party) called hot coffee where you actually end up doing a chick...

The previous versions of GTA would have you pull up in a car a hooker would get int he car would rock back and forth your money would go down but your health would go up.

I miss the good o'l days mysef... cain't member half the names of any of em, but used to be nice arcade games where you were the good guy, a cop chasin after the bad guys. I wouldn't mind this game if they flipped it around an you were a good cop tryin to stop the bad guys... but then.. I guess you couldn't rape people, murder them, car jack em er any of the other stuff. I think it's bad all the way around personnaly, but I can completely understand Raspy wit pent up rage... jes last night I slaughter my entire crew because... well.. I could.. an they were stupid... an I couldn't kill anyone else hehe so I murdered them.

It's rather sad to see these games gittin so much attention, an I guess that's jes where we are in this world today. I wouldn't let my kids play it. It's bad enough Kat loves the "crashin car game" I honestly cain't member the name of the silly thin, cause that's what Kat calls it, she wants to crash any of the male drivers, an gits flat out.. oh! that's the name of it, Flat Out, anyways, gits all kinds of bent at me if I wreck a woman driver. I'm not sure I want er playin it much cause I don't want er thinkin it's ok to crash into any an everthin.

I always found the sports games jes really annoyin personnaly, I don't mind some of the racin games, but to try an play foot ball er basket ball etc, it's annoyin when you havta put up wit code that doesn't do what it's sposed to an the like, though I mean it's a good way to spend some time as well, once you learn the ins an outs an when to actually swing the bat instead of when you would actually swing the bat, course my expeirence is all on old games an the like so I donno how any of em have gotten these days

The Wii has a remote thing that reacts to your movements. You swing the controller and the bat on the screen swings.

Yeah your right, I furgot bout that, the wii does the golf thin an bowlin an the like, I guess it wouldn't actually play the GTA games anyways... course I donno anythin bout the game play anyways so I donno, I do everthin PC so I don't have any of the game stations er the like.

Ahhhh...but it is a double edged sword? Can playing games like this cause one to grow "pent up rage?"

I mean, couldn't putting these images into the minds of people (often irrational teenage boys) create some sort of mind set that in some way justifies such actions in real life?

All I know is that there are a couple boys in Andie's class that act out the video games they play.....shooting, etc.

Boys will always act out war. Even if you keep toy guns away from them, they'll grab sticks and pretend that they are guns.

It is impossible to keep all violence away. Pictures of soldiers are in all of the history textbooks.

Lifting weights is a great exercise but it can cause some people to start taking roids to build that perfect bod, and push their muscle mass further... should lifting weights be banned?

Dieting can be a good thing but some people let it get out of control and it becomes a dependence on laxatives, or Anorexia or bulimia..... Should dieting be banned?

What works for one person is an addiction to another, and a health risk to yet another....

Pictures of soldiers in a textbook are very different than putting oneself into the imaginary position of killer and acting out actual murders on a video game..Adrenaline and heart rate are affected are included whereas in a history textbook...no so much...

Actually lifting the weights isn't the cause--the cause runs deeper into the psychological and emotional levels...

Again psychological and emotional problems are the cause..

Ice Age 2...kids dig this one...

Winter Games....skiing, skating, sleding...etc...

Kiddo's were never exposed to war/violence/video games yet they learned the shooting thing, from a homeschooled girl :D
I've tried to stop it, hasn't worked so far so we're working at 'shooting' objects, not ppl.

I do think the more someone is exposed to the violence of these games, the more they become numb to it. :whistle:

I LOVED PACMAN! Did as a kid and still do! I beat the kids' butts every time! :thanks: I don't really eat everything in sight like Raspy...I'm more of a mousy. My ass isn't fat either...I don't think....:P

We have the Game Cube and several other little game things that use up SEVERAL AA batteries and our kids play with them all (when functioning). Sonic the Hedgehog is Isaiah's favourites. Luke likes the racing one where he can drive over buildings, get caught by the cops and let a girl whoop his butt.....:haha: Sure, there's some blowing up the opponents, racing the cops...but they know it's only a game. Just like any other for of "entertainment" out there. Tv...movies....music....and all that. Moderation...

Thank you same with video games, it's not the game be it Video games or D&D.... it's deeper issues....


I'm not running out to kill people and steal their car.....

When I get pissed off I am running home to grab a controller to vent my frustration.....

However some pretend scenarios feed into deeper areas of the psyche and can desensitize us to those things..
