| Episcopal bishop Gene Robinson knows he is inviting death threats by entering into a civil union with his gay partner on the eve of his church’s biggest ecclesiastical conference. And he says it is worth it, because he is doing what God asks of him |

God is asking him to enter a civil union?
I thought God was in the marriage business. This guy would have better footing if he and his partner were to go to Massachusetts and get married. At least then he could claim that he was following the "single = celibate, marriage = monogomy" rule.

The Episcopal church allows their priests to marry.
The Episcopal church is eccentually the Church of England, but they broke from that at the time of the American Revolution (so they wouldn't be tied to England).

And now the Episcopal church is torn amongst itself over issues such as this one. I know of one man (an Episcopal priest) who left the Episcopal church because of the liberal onslaought of issues that were arising in the church, but the straw that broke the camel's back for him was a vote that was held to basically "put it in writing" that priests cannot have extramarital sex...It didn't pass...At that, this guy was outta there...
The Episcopal church is having a lot of problems..

He left because they up held a ruling that priests couldn't have extramarital sex? It seems he should have been happy about that.
Where did he go anyway?

No...the ruling was not held up...It failed to pass...
He went to the Orthodox Church.
I've heard of several entire Episcopal congregations converting because of such nonsense going on in the Episcopal Church.
I think there are such issues also in the Methodist Church regarding the acceptance/promotion of homosexuality in the church..

Here is an essay that his wife wrote about their leaving the Episcopal church and why. It includes several other things that were going on in the church at the time. It does a brief recount of their journey to the Orthodox faith, and i'm sorry if it offends any of you, but its interesting to read about the prolems in the Episcopal Church and the Roman Catholic groups they encountered along the way..
Its all I could find..

| For example, in July of 1991 I was present for a vote of the Episcopal House of Bishops, a resolution requiring ordained clergy to abstain from sex outside of marriage. When the ballots were counted, the resolution had failed. I remember thinking, “This isn’t a church anymore; it has no intention of following its Lord.” |
