We have done it at any time though some times steer clear because of the extra mess factor.

That is true, however during ovulation it is opened and producing sperm friendly mucus that helps "thingies" get in, Whereas during menstruation it is opened to allow the blood to get out. During ovulation those capiliaries and such are closed so that the blood doesn't just run out until it is time to release the unused lining. I would think that during menstruation whatever it is that hold the blood and build it upinside the uterus open up to release it. So I would think that with these open vessels, infection would be more cmmon...Correct me if I'm wrong.

I found 4 condoms in hubby's drawer when putting away his underwear yesterday...talk about bringing back memories!
