Silas
Panteleimon (Pants for short :rolf: )
Kallistos

Girl Names

Athansia

Ok let's forget the girl names altogether since YOUR HAVING A MANCHILD PRAISE GOD.

I like wolfgang....

Theodore Wolfgang... (Big Ted for short)

Maximus is cool also...

All those other ones (save the few Biblical) sound like pagan gods....

btw, my son's name is Tytus Uriah....please don't steal this one.

That's ironic since they are all great Christians throughout history...

Wow....sounds like names from the Roman times!

I'd go with "Elena" if it's a girl....B)

You have VERY different name taste from me  Sorry, don't really like most of them.

Quite a few of your boys name choices sound like girl names to me - they sound very feminine.

Of your boy choices I like Silas the best.

Of your girl choices I like Katherine the best (obviously since we have a Katheryn) followed by Elena or Mary.

String, maybe you can suggest to your hubby some, er, other choices...

How about Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. ? (From movie "Everything is Illuminated")

Our daughter's middle name is Persephone, which is pagan, but the names above are all saints names.

Samuel is nice and it's biblical :)

What's your criteria for a name? Biblical? Unusual? Etc?

We used Seraphym (we changed the spelling from Searphim) for our youngest daughter...

Boys names I like Silas, and Constantine.....

But there is still plenty of time to fight over names....

Most of the names that had hte more exaotic sound I'd not use for a first name but are excellent Middle name fodder.... but I like names that can be shortened nicely but he full name have a old time quality or charm to them...

Hence naming my daughter Seraohym

I'm leaning toward Seraphim for a boy, because Saint Seraphim was such an amazing man of God. Google him and be edified. I know it's strange, but if folks can name their kids Blade, Talon, etc., which sound like pro-wrestlers, surely we can go, maybe a little far in the other direction.

Yeah, but you're talking about naming a boy a "girls" name. Yes, I know it was originally a boys name but it's now very much a girls name but not only that it SOUNDS very feminine as well. Would you name a boy Katherine or Sarah? You're just asking for him to be made fun of. Especially when your other sons have such strong masculine, biblical names.

To be honest if you said your kids were Anneliese, Elijah, Isaac and Seraphim I would think you had two boys and two girls.

Other than Raspy, I've never heard of any other female Seraphims..Who and where are they?

sf49erfan - April 9, 2008 04:50 PM (GMT)
I gotta ask: why do people name their children after other people? Regardless if it is a Bibical name or great-aunt so-and-so. Are you hoping that your child will live up to the name?

Sentimental reasons mostly for me.

My hubby picked the name Isaiah (the prophet) but no, we don't actually expect him to live up to one!

Luke - well, he could be a doctor one day...

Candace -a queen? She's already a lil queen in her own way. :D

If you look on places like Facebook there are quite a few female Seraphims. The name doesn't register in the top 1000 names for a boy or a girl so I can't give you statistics. It's your baby so you can name it what you like. Just giving my opinion...and we all know what opinions are like :D

You want a beautiful name? "Soda"

Stringaling - April 9, 2008 06:44 PM (GMT)
I don't have one. Really I don't feel a pressing need to decide at this point...I've got other things to worry about right now..

Well the reason I want to name a Boy Richard David III is to honor my father and brother, ususally in my family it's seen as honoring an elder to give a child their name.

I considered naming one of our boys the IV, but I'm ready to retire my name. It's been around for over a century now, and is starting to sound quite archaic. Plus it seems a little egotistical to name a kid after oneself, when there are other more virtuous role models for the kid to associate with. Honoring another family member sounds good, if they were a godly example for the child to follow.
