ELDORADO, Texas - More than 400 children, mostly girls in pioneer dresses, were swept into state custody from a polygamist sect in what authorities described Monday as the largest child-welfare operation in Texas history. ADVERTISEMENT
The dayslong raid on the sprawling compound built by now-jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs was sparked by a 16-year-old girl's call to authorities that she was being abused and that girls as young as 14 and 15 were being forced into marriages with much older men. |

Perhaps she's keeping a low profile because she's scared of the possible outcomes...

Of those 463 children, 250 are girls and 213 are boys. Children 13 and younger are about evenly split — 197 girls and 196 boys — but there are only 17 boys aged 14 to 17 compared with the 53 girls in that age range.

http://news.aol.com/story/_a/31-of-53-sect...428171009990001How did they get three times as many teenage girls as boys? Either the boys ran away or something really bad happened. I'm concerned that there is going to be a mass grave found.

The missing boys are 'dumped' by the sect to reduce competition for the many wives they need.
This article is old but it covers it fairly well

Yeah, those groups always find reasons to kick the boys out, but do not claim that it is for the competition reasons--its always a punishment thing or something...
