Okay For the geeks here that like to help people fix their computer issues I propose this.

We create a free gmail or yahoo or MSN account with said account we go ahead and create a free logmein account.

When FHLers are having issue we can have them use the logmein account to add their system to the account, so that at a later date we can remote in and fix it....

I know in some cases (read Crazy Skillet wielding Cannuck who shall remain named Honey / Lena) it will be ungodly slow because of dialup connections....

But it can give us a view into what is actually the issue so we can see damned near first hand what's broken


Any better ideas?

I mostly use MSN, so long as it's working properly. I have gmail and yahoo as well.

ahh had the same idea wit netmeetin before I read this thread. Good idea Raspman, I'm so far behind on remote access I don't even know whats out there. I agree, dial up would be a disasterously slow process buuuuuutttttt... that canyuck most definetly needs an over haul. She oughta jes ship er drive to one of us an we'll send er a freash copy she can fowl up while we're fixin er drive lol

I don't think I'd trust any of y'all in my computer anyways. :naughty: I'm thinking just going out and gettin' a Mac like good ol' Rat recommended the other day.....:whistle:

Well thats jes fine an dandy, I cain't speak for Raspy er flaky Squat, but I certainly don't need anymore work......

an uh.. btw... you can frack up a mac jes as easily.. an LOL faster some times... then pc anyways. Even though I admit mac's are better... it jes depends on the loose nut behind the mouse wheel............

I'm just used to using third party...

But the thing with logmein, doesn't matter if it's behind a firewall or router (as long as the ports aren't disabled) it connects to the logmein server showing it's online, and you can just zip right in no muss no fuss of trying to get an Ip and sending a remote request and .......

Macs are pretty idiot proof.... but nothing is really idiot proof to a sufficiently talented idiot...

I can break mac fast... then again I'm a PC guy... I don't know much of anything about MAc though I'll get one someday to play with video adn sound editing

Oh and I agree I don't need to take on any more projects, but I figured I'd offer help to those that needed it....

Between Baby, Wife, Trying not to kill son adn all his crap, Trying to help oldest daughter out, and keep the three dogs (yes now we have ared beagle hanging around that my daughter brought in off hte street) and two cats from causing armegeddon in my home and study for certs, and a 6 hour daily commute and an 8.75 hour job I really don't have a lot of spare time....

But I'm willing to help out if someone needs it...

But if you're going to get a new comp price all the available systems you can don't just make up your mind on a mac......

also it would be a good idea to clean up teh computer anyway and let the kids have at it keeping the new system free from kid junk.....

Guys, don't worry yourselves on my account. Sounds like it bothers everyone else more than it bothers me, really. From what I can tell, it's only through MSN messenger because the rest of my computer's been fine. Seriously. Besides the fact that I have dial-up....been trying to get hubby to UPgrade there. :rollseyes: Like pulling teeth with him.
