Title: Ok...so I'm not perfect....

So last night it was snowing...both my back window and rear view mirrors were dusted with snow.
I was in a very small, tight parking lot...
I backed out and before I could realized I couldn't see...(like 3-4 feet) I lightly hit a women who was parked perpendicular to me, waiting for a parking spot. It slightly dented the back of her drivers door and the front of the back passenger door (it was a 4 door)...so two doors are slightly dented.
I was pretty mad, both at me and a little at her....
Anyway, I realize that the insurance will view this as my fault...
So I have $500 deductible and was going to ask her to get an estimate of the damage before I filed a claim with insurance as I don't want my rates to go up if I can handle fixing her car on my own.
Do you think this was the right move?

You need to call your insurance company immediately. If she were to claim any kind of injury (stiff back three days later, etc.) you could be in a lot of trouble if your insurance company doesn't know about it up front.

Yeah, call your insurance company.
Next time, make sure you clean your mirrors and windows before moving your vehicle. :P
I know...we all make mistakes. Hope it doesn't turn out too bad for the both of you!

Ok...so I called my local insurance rep and told him of the situation. He said what I was attempting to do was wise since my rates will increase anywhere from 5-30%....SHEESH.
So I called the lady and politely asked her to get some estimates to see if I could handle this expense out of pocket...she was very compliant and even called me "dear". She also said she wouldn't take it to the dealer as she knows this will cost more...so at least she seems on the up...
I forgot to tell you hippies that last night when it happen, we barely exchanged information (it was snowing pretty hard)...we basically just exchanged phone numbers and she said "she trusts me" to call her....hehe....I'm such a good boy.
Anyway...I just have to wait now to see if how many benjamins this will set me back...
I have a feeling that I'll have to file anyway....
My deductible is $500, and if the damage is more than a grand, I'll probably have to file....
Her car is a 2002 Nissan Altima?....and it dented both left side driver and passenger door.
I'm screwed...
Would it be wrong of me to set up some kind of foundation or account for peeps to donate to on my behalf?
How much are you good for?

Hey I was thinking of setting up a website for people to donate to me....
I was gonna call it something like Helpa brother out or can you spare a buck buddy?
Dunno about all the legals of it though... but if you up front say something along the lines of this is meant to help me out with X then you're pretty much off the hook but if you shroud it so that it looks like you're helping underpriveledged kids, and you're buying your kids three xboxes a piece because you feel that their underpriveledged because they don't have 3 xboxes apiece....... well let's say that's frowned upon.....

Yeah, I would say that as long as you're up-front about it what's the problem? Something so they know they're GIVING YOU MONEY, period. I think you should try it! B)

I heard about this guy who got a P.O. Box and then placed an ad in the New York Times that read: Last Chance to Send in Your Dollar! With no further information other than the address. He got something like $800.
