Title: N Routers? G Routers? Huh????
andiesmama - February 4, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
Ty wants to get a wireless router, that I know. He wanted me to check to see if N Routers are compatible with G systems (whatever that means)?
So here you go, oh great computer guys...........enlighten me! Also, give recommendations as to the best ones and the ones to stay away from.
Please! B) (almost forgot my manners.......)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16833127243I've been eyeballin' this one for myself (kinda pricey though)...it'll do both bands.
Whatever you do make sure you get one that does wpa and wpa2 security to keep out hackers like Louise.

Okay........I'll pass the info along.
BUT because I know how you men get when your SPECIFIC questions aren't answered ( ), can we just get an "N" router? Or since we have a "G" system.....whatever.........can we only use a "G"?
I have no idea what I'm talking about........... :faint:

Do you plan on upgrading wireless cards anytime soon?
If you have G and dont' plan on upgrading or buying new equipment you really don't need N.
Depends on the model as to whether it'll be backward compatible most routers that are put out by Linksys while there are two "hot" standards wil usually make the devices dual compatible.
I like linksys......

Linksys is good....
Between G and N...Like raspy kinda mentioned, make sure you match the band that is inside your laptop, pcmcia card, USB adaptor or desktop pci card...
IOW, you gotta match the router's band to whatever wireless device you own....no workie otherwise.
Probably G if it's relatively new....but be sure before you buy.
Sams Club/Costco usually has good deals on basic Linksys G routers...
The one I linked do does QoS and will prioritize traffic...probably don't need that or the expense. $50 bucks at a club will do ya.

Almost made it an entire month, too!
I hate working 6-12s. Especially when I get paid for working 5-8s.
