Title: Rewarding for good "grades"?
Honey - January 11, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
Do you pay your kids when they get good grades on their report cards?
Or if you're homeschooling, do they get paid for good marks on their work?
Curious....

Tried it... didnt' work out too well...
I just ground them if they get bad marks....

Nope. Don't do it now and don't plan on doing it in the future. Not as a rule, anyhow. I think if there's a subject Andie has trouble with, we may use some kind of reward (movie, trip to the beach, etc) as an incentive to study harder & do extra work to increase her grade.
But nothing like a certain amount of money for A's, B's, C's, etc. :nono:

Yeah, that money thing is so stupid. I think the knowledge of knowing what they're doing is SO much more important than earning a lousy buck.

There are other ways for kids to earn a buck. Doing what they are supposed to be doing shouldn't be one of them. I don't earn anything by doing what I am supposed ot be doing, even if I do make that floor shine. :)

I think it's rather silly to pay a child for good grades. We aren't planning on doing that. Good grades are expected, just like making your bed, brushing your teeth, cleaning up after yourself at the table. I don't pay them to do any of those other things... :dunno:

I don't pay my kids for anything like that (never even crossed my mind) BUT I do try to acknowledge and reward their behaviour if they get good comments on work attitude, ethics, classroom behaviour etc. This is what is important, not whether they have a particular aptitude for partiular subjects.

If the need arises, like AM said, I will reward him for grades. I always thought the kids that got paid for good grades were SO cool when I was younger...I want Justin to be cool! :rolf:
Meh, we'll see.
