Title: We Give Presents Because...

andiesmama - December 17, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
How do you explain the concept to a 3 year old? I mean, she knows Santa brings us presents to help celebrate Jesus' birthday....so when she saw the presents under the tree today (the ones for our family), of course Andie thought "Presents from Santa!!" :bounce:

So then I tell her they're for everyone in the family from OUR family....but I don't want to say "we give presents because we love each other" since I don't think that should be *quite* the emphasis....

So....WHY do we exchange gifts as a family? A concept a 3 year old could comprehend...

And I thought when you became a parent all these questions were mysteriously answered for you!! :wall:

Say...

When Jesus was born, three wise kings came and gave him gifts. So, to follow in the tradition of giving, we give gifts to each other to remember what happened when Jesus was born.

Then give her a big hug.

Exactly what Red said. Jesus received gifts...altho not until Jan. 6th, the Epiphany.
But we do it on Jesus' birthday, which is December 25th since that's the day he was born. That should be easy for her to comprehend. :)

We are so blessed to be around such wise and loving parents.

And no Debby, these answers do not just come to us when you became a parent! I dont know how many times Tom and I have done something and thought, well we wrecked her now!

Actually, I think that's still under debate.
