Title: The Trinity

andiesmama - November 12, 2007 09:58 PM (GMT)
We're discussing the Trinity in the class I'm taking at my church, and there were some questions posed that I thought I'd submit here for discussion if anyone's interested.

Personally, it makes my head spin to think too much about these questions because I can't come up with a definitive answer, but maybe that's the point........ :faint:

1. If Jesus and the Father are both God, when Jesus prayed to the Father was he talking to himself?

2. Do Jesus and the Father have the same will?

3. Are there any analogies to help us understand the Trinity?

About #2, I think not, only because of this verse:

QUOTE
Matthew 26:39:  Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

They are three persons in one essence. I don't think it is possible for us to ever understand how that works because in our worls and the way our minds and earthly nature operate, we cannot fathom a triune God. My kids have This Book that explains the trinity like the three parts of an apple: The seeds, the fruit, and the skin. All distinct and seperate things, yet all apple. Its a really good book for the kids. You should check it out.

I've heard the same about an egg. The shell, the white and the yolk...

The Trinity is three persons all sharing same essense, which is God. They have distinct personalities or functions within the god-head, but all operate from one undivided will. They alone had no beginning, but just are.

Trinity like water....

Can be ice, steam or liquid...but it's always just water just in different forms.
