Title: Bath Time
Honey - November 11, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
At what age do your kids take baths alone?
My stinker 7 yr. old daughter refuses to step foot into the tub alone. She whines until either myself or hubby comes in. She can wash herself fine and all, but just getting GOING is.... Then sometimes if I leave the room for a second, she storms up again.
Luke has no problem washing himself and has even volunteered to help with Candace. :umno:

Andie prefers showers, the one in our room is huge, so she sits in there & plays with her toys forever........she'd stay in there for hours if I'd let her!
Every so often she'll take a :bath: , and for both I leave her alone to play and wash herself & her hair, but I always :quote: touch up :quote: when I come in to get her out.
She's probably been doing the shower thing alone since she was maybe 3 1/2, tub I don't think I let her be in there alone until she was closer to 4.

Yeah, but does she whine about being alone? Any ideas to get Candace to stop whining? :sigh:
I've been reminding that she's a big girl now and all that. She has her toys with her & she'll play a little. So lately, I've just been making her baths pretty quick.
She's scared of the shower too, so...that likely won't work. :help:

We let Kat take baths by herself. She likes to have the bath to herself cos then she can "swim" and pretend to be Ariel :D

Kiddo's 3&5 bathe alone. No help from me :D
OS 5 will shower by himself, ys 3 still needs help understandibly.

Whining? Nope.........but Andie's always loved the bath/shower. She plays Ariel, too! :D
Does she whine just because she's lonely? I dunno, maybe you could bring in a book or journal & sit in there for like 5 or 10 minutes. The next time, decrease it by a couple minutes, etc etc etc.
Kind of like CIO, but in reverse! B)

Cry It Out........I'm one of the oh-so-very evil parents who used that method to get my child to learn to sleep on her own.

CIO? :smack: I have NEVER ever been a CIO type of parent. Besides, if she should be crying (adding her own water) what's that gonna accomplish? :dunno: Hopefully she'll do well tonight....I have a PLAN in mind. :hmm:
andiesmama - November 12, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
I didn't mean to leave her crying in the bathtub you DOOFUS!!!! :smack: :wall:
I MEANT to sit in there with her, when she first gets in, for like 10 minutes or so, read a book or whatever. Make an excuse to leave, then come back after a bit.
The next time, stay in there for a minute or so less.....8 minutes........and extend the amount of time you leave for.
Shorten & extend until hopefully she gets more used to you NOT being there than you ARE there.
Geez, even I wouldn't leave my kid crying in the bath tub...... :P

Anyone have trouble with kids that don't want to get OUT of the bath? Kat would stay in there all day if I let her and Liam fusses when I get him out. Liam also takes after me and likes hot baths. If the water is too cold he fusses so I bath him in the same temperature water that I do.
Honey - November 13, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah, our boys have their days where they just wanna lounge in there a couple HOURS OR they quickly splash around and hop on out.
Isaiah also loves the water quite warm. He's just a regular fish. :D
andiesmama - November 13, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
Oh, Andie could stay in the shower for EVER!! Unless, of course, I'm in the middle of dinner then she wants out immediately............ :bonk:
But she's usually pretty good about getting out without whining. I give her the usual "5 minute warning" so she knows it's coming........

When the bath is getting too long I take the plug out and when the water's gone its not so fun anymore... B) Its funny to see the youngest trying to splash around into a shrinking half inch of water... :haha:

Hehe yeah, I've done that before.
