Title: America seems to be experiencing an atheist moment

It may be daring to say it but America seems to be experiencing an atheist moment. Although "In God We Trust" was declared the national motto by an act of Congress more than 50 years ago and has been stamped on the currency for longer than that, some considerable doubt has developed of late.
If you look at the bestseller list over the last year, you'll find a number of books on atheism - to the surprise of the publishing industry. |
So, is America going through an "athiest moment"? If yes - why do you think so?

I think it is more like a movement than a moment. As we, as a country, grow away from God and begin to hate the Christians, we are becoming more and more humanistic, self centered, and often literally atheist. I cannot imagine things getting better...

I think it's just a sign of the times. More people moving away from Christ as the world moves toward Armageddon.

I think the whole tolerance thing gets into this. A generation has grown up learning that they are to be tolerant of all kinds of things. Therefore books that would never have been published in the past can be now. I'm not saying they were banning books, but publishers wouldn't have published atheist books fifty years ago, because they would have had a hard time selling them. Now with people being able to purchase over the internet there is a great chance that a minority opinion book will sell.

I also think a lot of Christians open themselves up to more and then they slowly drift away. Reading certain books, watching certain movies, etc. start to numb us...
