Just wondering what each of your basic requirements are?

Very nicely written resume. And don't forget the cover letter - very important. :)

Not sure if I DON'T take you seriously because of answers like this or IF it's because you were once a cheerleader (snicker).

But seriously, this is the defining line between being a child of God or being in a cult...

So tell me what it takes to get into heaven.

So just belief? That's easy....

No tongue-speaking?

No ceremonies?

No sheep slaughters?

No incense?

No music w/or w/o instruments?

No water babtism?

No transubstantiation?

No works?

Well, that's it in a nutshell. You can have all the tongue speaking, ceremonies, sheep slaughtering, incense, music, baptism, transubstantiation or works you like but it don't mean squat (excuse the pun ) if you don't believe in Jesus. Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me - John 14:6. If you don't believe in Jesus all bets are off. There's nothing wrong with the stuff you mentioned, infact we should do some of it. But it's not our ticket into heaven.

Right Sarah.......it's not your works

QUOTE
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

You have to accept Jesus as your Saviour, that He died for us. Period.

Sheep-slaughtering at your own risk. B)

QUOTE
1  You must first recognize that you are a sinner that has fallen short of God's Holy requirements. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..."
Romans 3:23    NASB

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord"
Romans 6:23    NASB

Each one of us came short of the requirements and were separated from God and Heaven

2 You have fallen short and can't earn your way into Heaven. You need God's provision for forgiveness and restoration. There is only one provision God has given you. It is only through His son Jesus Christ.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
John 3:16  NASB

"Jesus said to him, ' I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.' "
John 14:6  NASB

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9  NASB

It is not from your works that you can get into Heaven. It is the gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

3 You must personally invite Jesus Christ into your life so that you may be forgiven and make Heaven your home. You must strive to love God and obey Him with the strength that God will give you.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me."
Revelation 3:20  NASB

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,..."
John 1:12  NASB

Haven't heard from the Oakies on this one....

I would say all the posters above are of the same mind...

If we can get string and basil to agree, then I really don't think any thing else should matter...

will post later. Gotta get the kids ready to go to the zoo!! Maybe I'll leave 'em there.. But will definately post later..Not sure if it will be today because we're busy..

In a nutshell, it is faith in cooperation with obedience..For the duration of your life..

I agree with all of this.

I also think (just my thoughts, not necessarily Presbyterian theology) that the old covenant might still be in effect for the Jews. They might still be redeemed by faith in God and adherence to the Law.

Basil - October 24, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
These scriptures:

QUOTE
"That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."  Romans 10:9-10

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:16-17

Cannot be correctly understood apart from these:

QUOTE
"And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.'"  Mark 16:15-16

"Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.  Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’"   John 3:5-7

"But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized."  Acts 8:12

"Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized." Acts 18:8

"Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."  Acts 2:38

"Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection . . ." Roman 6:3-5

"For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit." 1 Corinthians 12:13

"For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ."  Galations 3:26-27

And:

QUOTE
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne."  Revelation 3:20-21

"Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.  Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air.  But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified." 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Any understanding about our salvation that doesn't take the full word of God into account is skewed. Yes, belief is the beginning, but not the end. In fact, as is indicated by these last two verses, the end doesn't come until we depart this life. Salvation is a struggle, which Christ helps us with.

Stringaling - October 24, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
What he is trying to say is that it is a lifelong process of obedience and faithfulness on our part. We have to fight the fight and run the race, because if we do not, and give up we risk the same thing Paul himself was cautious of:

QUOTE
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified." 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Basil - October 24, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
And since no one is here to present the Roman Catholic view:

"Pope Boniface VIII issued the ex cathedra bull Unam Sanctam in 1302 which defined that 'We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is wholly necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.'"

From here.
