When should you replace your vacuum cleaner?

Keneke - October 3, 2007 09:15 PM (GMT)
When it breaks...

:P

:agree:  I've had the same one for the 6 years I've been married to hubby and he had it for I don't know how many years before that.

.... I know this is a ladies section but I wanted to see if I could chime in and ask for the name of a good vac to get for hardwood, tile and carpet (if one exists and isn't a million dollars!). Any ideas ladies?

Right after you throw it out the damn window because it no longer SUCKS!

OK, sorry, pulling myself together. I hate my vacuum. It's an upright Hoover. First, Hoover has NO, ZERO, ZILCH customer service. Second, it's loud - really, really loud. Finally, it just doesn't work well. My GE canister vac was WAY better.

What would you consider broken? Mine still sucks, but the carpet height thing is broken so I vacuum as if on bare floor all the time and it is soooooooooo loud... I've had mine since '98...

If it no longer picks up dust/dirt than I'd get rid of it...

Siege, I have wood floors and carpet and have yet to find a good carpet for both. It's just easier to sweep and mop the floors and vacuum the carpet.

You've had a vacuum since '98? Really?

That's amazing. You're going to be SO disappointed at the lack of quality in vacuums these days.

Did you guys see the ad on the bottom of this page? Sugardaddie.com Hmmm, how exactly did they make that connection: vacuum buying - legal prostitution.

Maybe it has something to do with sucking?

String is SUCH a perv! :P

I tried the swiffer sweeper thingy by Dirt Devil (I hate that name!) and it didn't last half a year. We have an older house and the floor constantly has dirt in the cracks, so I'm also looking for a good hardwood floor vac.

I do have a vacuum cleaner that you put water in the base and the dirt goes into the water. It gets muddy, we just dump it outside. It's broken right now and needs replacements. THAT has been my best vacuum ever. Yeah, we paid a pretty penny for it, too!

I've had mine since 98 too...Still works

I'd rather use the money and put it somewhere else...
Does it bother you that much?

Stringaling - October 4, 2007 09:41 PM (GMT)
No I guess not......I just hate the thing..

I can tell ya this much. Buying a new vacuum cleaner to protect your hearing (and those around you!) is a much better investment than having to buy hearing aids & go for hearing tests every 5 years or so. That might cost ya a few grand or so.
