Title: Pregnancy
Description: A choice or biological madness?

Stringaling - September 21, 2007 08:03 PM (GMT)
Okay...The issue of chosing to get pregnant has come up over in the BF thread, and since I feel so passionately about this I thought I'd start a convo here about it. Who here has:

a. Chosen when and if to have a baby

b. Never chosen when to have a baby, but not prevented it

c. Tried to stop it but failed and ended up pregnant anyway

And how many times has/have you done that?

1st kid....pretty much planned. (we had been married about 10 years and were flirting with the process)

2nd kid....totally planned....(wife had 3 miscarries in between)

3rd kid...we were discussing it, she wanted, I wasn't so sure...it happened, not really planned.

andiesmama - September 21, 2007 08:34 PM (GMT)
In the beginning, we decided that after we'd been married for 5 years, we'd start trying to have a baby.

Then it was after we'd been married 4 years.......so a couple months before our 4th anniversary I went off the pill. And got pregnant a few weeks before our 4th anniversary.

Now, we're using the barrier method, so if I DO get pregnant :wall: , that would fall into your 3rd category.

I've been using the "cut your sack with a sharp steel knife" method...so far it's been working pretty well.

Firstborn - I was babysitting my nephew 5-6 days a week which just made my own baby fever stronger. We were married 5 months when we got pregnant.

Second born - tried for a few months. Our timing sucked, but God's was perfect!

Third born - condom was put on too late.... Oh well. Another pleasant surprise. B)

All are nicely evenly spaced at 2 years, 1 month & 2 years, 2 months.

Far as I can tell, hubby's vasectomy performed 7 years ago has proven effective.

Stringaling - September 21, 2007 08:49 PM (GMT)
Has anyone her had a completely unplanned and actually undesired poorly times pregnancy? Besides me??

Sarah - September 21, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Kat was b. and Liam was c. but we could have done better at it. If we ever have any more babies I want them only to be a.'s. We've been using FAM for birth control and so far so good but it's far from ideal for us.

seige - September 21, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
I think that I get to post- been having sex for 6 years and no babies yet so I guess I could say that it's working!

Liam definitely falls into that category for me. And although I love my son I'm still not "happy" he's here.

Ouch. My heart drops every time I read those words. I can't even fathom THINKING those words ever, with my kids.

rasplundjr - September 21, 2007 09:12 PM (GMT)
Well My Nieces, Wife and Sisters their first ones were all a surprise....

My middle sister all of hers were a surprise, oldest sister the majority orhers were not planned but not planned against either...

Misty and her ex tried for a while before my daughter was born
We've been not trying, not not trying for about 2.25 years before Misty got pregnant....

Misty's sister... her hubby looks at her and she's knocked up

But the issue with misty adn I might have been my biology and issues with my weight and how it affected my chemistry....

Yeah, it's something I struggle with because I wonder how a mother can feel that way. Obviously God has bigger plans because I believe He has a plan for each and every person but the stress of having Liam and its effects have been extremely difficult to deal with at times and have taken their toll. But I do believe he is a blessing even if at times it doesn't always feel that way. And is the most adorable little boy ever!

Keneke - September 21, 2007 09:33 PM (GMT)
I have two a's. We agreed to wait to start a family. AFter 3 years of marriage, travelling and having fun we knew it was time to try so we tried. Had no problems getting pregnant (first time trying) then decided we wanted them two years apart, tried again and no problem.
We are currently in the 'no more babies' but aren't trying very hard to prevent it. I wouldn't mind 2 more :) And I'd prefer 2 more boys :D BUT if it doesn't happen, no biggy. We're happy where we're at.

Oh, and btw, DH's coworker had 3 kids, got snipped and wifey is pregnant again

We don't. Whatever happens, happens.

I wish I could be as positive as you about this. I struggle with this too and combined with marital problems makes for a very heave weight on my shoulders...

Friends Dh got snipped, he's still shooting through. It's been one year and not much has changed other than extra extra extra precautions. What's the point?

I guess if you NEVER want kids again, either have your tubes tied or stop having sex.

:naughty:

It's not 100% effective. You CAN still get her pregnant... Like I said, friends DH had the procedure done, this is his 3rd time going in to get 'tested' b/c he's still 'shooting' through...Hence my question, what's the point?

If I could I would...

I think I could handle 4....

3 was the hard number to have...had to get a new vehicle...bigger house. Shoot the hard work is done now...BRING ON THE KIDS.

I'll keep trying...

Yes, that was Tessa, but we got over it and are thrilled to have her now.

Christopher and Phillip were both planned.

Me too. My heart truly aches for String over this issue. I had no idea you felt that way Sarah.

Both of my babies were birth control babies - condom and the pill. We didn't try. We were VERY surprised (First time, I was laid off. Second time Tommy was. We decided to find other things to do during layoffs after Bubba). But definately not unhappy. They are such joys to me in my life. I cannot imagine what I would have done without them. Sure, I might have more money, more stuff, more quiet time. But who cares? It blows my mind that God thought enough of me to bless me with the opportunity to raise two of His children. Who knew I could actually do that?!
