| Last week 25-year-old Jessica Rowley became one of about a dozen women nationwide to make a highly unusual career move: she was ordained a Catholic priest. Rowley’s ordination—which took place at Eden Theological Seminary, a progressive institution in Webster Groves, Mo.—is approved by the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, a group of churches that decline to recognize the authority of the pope but see themselves nevertheless as Roman Catholic. This week Rowley—who is also married—begins working full-time as an associate pastor at Saints Clare & Francis, a breakaway parish in Webster Groves. |

Never really understood how the Pope was considered to be so "holy". Just another man - like me.

Why the barf? It didn't say anything about being married to another woman or anything.
I mean really, what's the worst this could do.

There are a few issues here.
I always thought it was ridiculous that priests couldn't marry. But hey, if you feel you're called to be a Catholic priest, then so be it. The church says you can't marry then you must have understood that rule BEFORE you signed up for the job.
What I think is a bigger issue is the idea of churches not submitting to the authority of their leadership. Again, if you choose to be a Catholic then you should submit to the authority of the Pope and the rules of the Catholic church. No, I don't think the Pope is any more holy than me, but I believe he is called by God to be a leader, a teacher of his people, his church.
Finally, I think it's sad that so many organized religions make comprimises of their core values to reach this fallen world. You don't have to comprimise to meet the needs of the people of this world. WWJD? Did he comprimise? No, the bible tells us there is but one way to the Father and that is through the Son. No comprimise there. It's very simple, very straight forward. But now you see churches bowing to pressure from the world to adapt and change. For instance, there's someone on the other board who is a Catholic Wicca. I cannot fathom how someone, let alone a group of people, can be accepted in the Catholic church after they've been out dancing naked under the full moon, worshipping their godesses.
AND I was what I called a fallen Cathlic practicing Wicca before I was saved, so these are two issues I can easily climb up on my soap box to discuss.

She isn't a part of the Roman Catholic church, just some off-shoot that obviously doesn't adhere to the RC teachings...So she is "Catholic" just not Roman...
In the Orthodox Church, priests can marry as long as they marry before becoming a priest. Has been that way since the beginning. It wasn't until after Rome broke away from the One church (officially in the year 1054) that the Roman pope declared that priests be celibate and unmarried. The Church in the East(East=Orthodox Church West=Roman Catholic) maintained that marriage is a good thing and helps to keep priests from sinning.

| 1074-Pope Gregory VII said anyone to be ordained must first pledge celibacy: ‘priests [must] first escape from the clutches of their wives.’ |
As we have all seen through the eye of the media in the last few years, the dogma of priestly celibacy has reared its ugly head in the Catholic Church...With many many young victims foreer damaged.. :nono:
