Title: Anyone know much bout this
Addicted2~Jesus - August 22, 2007 02:12 PM (GMT)
Over at what was once CF folks are spoutin that all this change an new vision an literall bullcrap is bout sumthin called a "seeker-movement". From what I gather it's a matter of hidin thins that *might* make non-believers uncomfortable in order jes to git em in the door, an THEN blind side em wit "A" truth.
I don't buy it, an I think it's deceptive. It'd be like goin to a mcdonalds play place walk in the door an then find out it's a whore house! I don't think we should be tryin to hide our chrisitanity on the insane off chance that someone might actually walk in an then we can pounce on em.
From what I have gathered that is now the excuse they are usin over there but I flat out don't like it. All the search engines an the like have gone to pieces as far as chrsitian forums go an the like, they are sayin it's become an "invite your friend" place... if I had any I dern sure wouldn't be invitin em over to that place.
An the whole social networkin thin? I don't even pretend to understand what that is. But I'm not here to bash that fourm er the like, I'm curious as to your thoughts bout this 'seeker-movement' stuff. I think it's wrong wrong wrong.

I think a non-believer would feel more put-off by being blind-sided like that, yanno?
If a non-beliver has questions, or is seeking information, they WILL seek it out. I think it would turn them off even more if they signed up for a forum and THEN came to discover it was full of Christians talking about being saved & what-not.
Not that that's bad.....I know we're supposed to witness.....but I don't like the feeling of THIS way of witnessing, if that makes any sense.

And yet....the non-believers are allowed to be on staff, noticed as "higher authority" by the rest of the "community".
It doesn't make much sense. But ya gotta remember...this is Erwins' "supposed original vision".
I dunno. I've given up with all the rules and stuff going on. I just read about the 'entertainment' every so often going on in the WD or CR when SOMEone here reminds me of it...

Good analogy!
Or, probably more like walking into a whorehouse and finding Joel preaching.

I'm not sure how a website can do this, but there are evangelistic events that are clearly designed to appeal to non-Christians. One example is a volleyball tournament that I heard about. Any team could participate. Before each match was a prayer and during breaks Christian music was played. Also, all the players and spectators were given a bag of information about the sponsoring church as they left.

Both of those articles are a pretty poor representation of what "seeker sensitive" churches are about.
as for wuts going' down on CF........it's nothing new - same crap - different name. I just have fun gettin' under peoples skin over there - those ultra-conservatives are great to mess with.
As for the "seeker sensitive" or "Emerging Church" - whatever you'd like to call it - as with anything, it can be taken to a certain extent where it is bad. Willow Creek is a great example of a "seeker sensitive" church - and they do a great job of it! Basically, they avoid using the "christian-isms" or lingo that is often times scary to non-believers.
"We are now about to partake of the body and blood of Christ." - Huh? Cannibals?
to a person that has never attended a church service - imagine how some things we say really sound. So, the "seeker-sensitive" church tries to avoid using them. Tries to make the seeker feel comfortable in the church which allows for RELATIONSHIPS - wow, what a novel thought, to grow. It's basically - speaking at their level with the hopes of fostering a relationship/friendship which opens up opportunities to talk about Christ. What's wrong with that?
Again - as for what A2J is talkin' about - over on CF.........well, not much can be said about that place....
