Title: Banning Formula Ads

| A coalition of charities is demanding baby milk be treated like tobacco and subjected to a total advertising ban. |
This is in the UK but I'm sure US will follow soon...Philippines has stricter guidelines...

:nono:
That's too bad. Not wanting to turn this into a formula vs BF thread.....but there are enough moms already who feel guilty about not BF'ing their kids. Stuff like this just enhances that.

That was DH's opinion also. I'm just wondering when does government stop? What's next not to advertise? Oreo's b/c they're unhealthy?
Addicted2~Jesus - August 7, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
I don't really see what the problem is wit advertisment. Though, I wouldn't mind if they would actually advertise jes as much breastfeedin. I know some women cain't do it, but I don't have much sympathy for those who won't do it. Formula is jes flat out not better then breast an that's the problem that many folks miss. They think one is jes as good as the other an it's not, doesn't mean someones goin to die because of eatin formula but it isn't as good as BF'in is is all.

In my area here in CA, BF is advertised more than FF...As soon as you get pregnant and they give you info it's all about 'healthy' pregnancy and then the rest is about BF over FF. In the hospital rooms there are posters and lists on why BF is better. Lactation nurses come AS SOON as you have your baby and work with you. Then they call you EVERY single day when you go home to check on you. No formula was ever sent home with me with my first born. I took all the formula I could get my hands on with my second :D
LIke I asked earlier...what's next?
Honey - August 7, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
You serious, Keneke? I never had that in my hospital. Sure, the nurses encouraged BFing, but I never had a lactating nurse...
Naturally, I did the BFing for the first half year, then rather than COW'S milk  for under a year, I used formula.
That ad is just DUMB. :screwy:

I totally understand where you're coming from~
Great job in expressing your milk to feed your little ones!! I can't imagine how hard that would be.
Bottom line is that all us parents want what's best for our children and we all make different choices.
BUT back to the OT...........whether or not you're pro- or anti-BFing, Keneke is right in asking "What next?"
They've already banned cigarette ads, but those were proven to cause cancer.
Fast food is unhealthy....should they ban those ads?
Those "wheelie" shoes are dangerous..........should they ban those ads?
Junk food (chips, etc) are unhealthy......should they ban those ads?
See where I'm coming from?

Exactly!!!
I was for the anti smoking in bars until I figured they're privately owned. Shouldn't it be up to the bar owner if they'll allow smoking or not?
Interesting how many of the " new meds" are allowed on TV and if you read the fine print OR listen long enough you'll hear about ALL the possible side effects. It seems more dangerous to take those meds than to live w/ your condition  They're still allowed though... :dunno:

Fast food and junk food ads should be banned .... everyone is talking about eating healthy and and trying to teach our kids to do so, but those ads r not helpful.
I personally do not like ads, they irritate me ......

I think most of us know what's healthy and what's not...
I'm not a fan of continually banning ads. Where do you draw the line? What one person finds ok, another cannot imagine using/eating/etc that same item. :dunno:
