Title: Sleep-HELP
Keneke - July 24, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
Help!!!!
Kiddo's 3&5 have been excellent sleepers until last week. Their normal schedule was 7:30-8 wake up
12:30/1-2:30 Nap
7:30- Bedtime
Now it's:
7:30-Wake up
No Nap
9:00 FINALLY fall asleep even though we put them down at 7/7:30.
I'm tired of yelling at them, taking away marbles, etc. What happened?
I thought for sure w/o a nap they'd go down earlier. AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH
andiesmama - July 24, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
OVERtired.......
Or maybe that plus a power struggle? :dunno:
With Andie, everything's non-negotiable. Even if she doesn't sleep, she still has her "quiet time" in the afternoons for about an hour & half. Do you still have your guys lie down?
As for bedtime, I know if I miss the little window and get her to bed too late, she has more trouble falling asleep. So I do all I can to get her to bed right on time, if not a little early. She's got "one chance" of getting out of bed for whatever excuse she can think of, then she has to stay in bed, period. She's got stuffed animals but no books or other toys.
And I close her door and forget it..... B)
Good luck, I know it can drive you crazy!! But this too shall pass....

They hit that age. My oldest grew out of naps before the youngest even grew into it. So the youngest won't take a nap without a major ordeal 'cuz her older sister (8) won't do it.

Naps or no naps they must stay in their room. ODS uses our room or else they play and swing on their bunk beds.
Since they haven't been napping I've been putting them to sleep earlier only to realize they are still staying awake (and swinging on their bunk bed) and fooling around.
Last week they were getting about 14 hours of sleep
This week its more like 10

10 hours of sleep is about right. Girl, with 14 you were just saving up a lot of energy that had to be released sometime.. Sounds like they got to the breakig point.!
My kids don't fall asleep for a while until well after they are put to bed. They have to be quiet and they've learned that. There are consequences to getting too loud and jumping around. A spanking or two and the problem has ceased forever in the older ones and we've never had a problem since... :whip: The baby, on the other hand---he's just 2 now and he's learning from his sibs that bedtime is quiet time. His volume is gradually going down...
My kids quit their naps about age 2 and 3, so that's not a problem. I don't know how you got a 5 year old to sleep 14 hours a day.. That's amazing!

His Dr. said if he still takes naps then let him and so I did :)
I've read 10-12 hours for a 5 year old. I'm pushing for the 12 :P

Sheesh, your kids sleep ALOT! I wasn't a big pusher for naps....they'll sleep when they're tired. Whoopee...never made it a big deal. :dunno:

Andie could probably do without her quiet time........but I NEED IT probably more than she does, just for some "alone" time.....

I think that is an awesome idea...I would do be on it if I had seperate rooms for all three kids, but any two together arent' quiet and trouble awaits my attention.... :(

I was rather annoyed wit Kat, because when she was jes a baby, 9 er so months old, she decided naps were a thin of the past. We tried on up to like 2 years old, an she *would* nap IF someone napped wit er type thin, but it was a fuss to git er to sleep , she'd finally jes sorta give up cause I was tryin to take a nap. She was always a 7 er so wake up an a nine sleep, she jes doesn't need as much sleep apperently. Liam on the other hand.... that boy, of course he is only 9 months, but he wants his sleep, lately he's fought it a bit, but he does take 5 er 6 naps a day.
Each to thier own, but I agree, if they need sleep they'll go to sleep, I'd save my breath an give up yellin, jes goin to exercise your lungs an the kids ain't goin to be still long enough anyways to go to sleep. We've never had any success in puttin em to sleep earlier then nine lol, 7:30? I cain't imagine what that would be like... wit Kat, she'd jes git up at 5 in the mornin hehe
