Title: Dreaded checkup......DONE!!
andiesmama - July 12, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Andie had her 5 year checkup today......I had her all prepared for a shot (I thought they were going to do the chicken pox booster), but she didn't have to get it done! :thanks:
She was SOOOOO relieved, and her next question was, "Do I still get a sticker and a prize even if I didn't get a shot?"
Doc was quizzing her on her colors, etc......red, yellow, blue......so she's politely answering him, then says, "I LOVE your aqua pen!!" He was shocked, then laughed, and goes, "Well, I guess you know your colors, huh?"
So, clean bill of health.... :amen: ....but next year I've gotta get a new one, seems this doc isn't going to take our insurance anymore, they're switching over to the "conceirge" type of service........money, money, money....... :bored:

New law in CA is a TB test. No biggy :) Anytime before 1st grade so I *might* schedule sooner since I've already met my deductible for this year ;)

What is "concierge" type service ?? That really sucks about the insurance..are you gonna change docs?

:nono:
It's where you (the patient) pays an additional sum of money out of pocket (say $3000/year) for "additional personalized service" meaning anywhere from having your physician's cell number and he's on call for you 24/7, getting preferred time frames for appointments, or getting in immediately when you have a problem.
Some docs even make house calls to their concierge patients. It's all about the money. :boo:
I've GOT to change doctors, one because I can't see paying out of pocket when I've got perfectly good insurance and two because I disagree with the philosophy....like I said, all about the money. Even when the nurse told me they were "moving away from immunizations because they were too expensive".....hello? I thought they were a physician's office! I've NEVER heard of that. Now, I don't know if she meant moving away from giving the ones that were suggested and not recommended, or moving away from all of them.
But it's coming across to me that money is the bottom line, not patient care. And that just doesn't sit well with me.

Come move to Canada....:eyebrows:
At least our healthcare is MUCH cheaper.

Finding a doctor, while tedious and time consuming, isn't too bad. When we moved I had to find a new doc and went to someone that my friend referred me to. He doesn't always accept new patients but I got in:) It's been nothing but a blessing so far. I actually switched DH over to him. He wasn't accepting new patients but since I was already a patient, he accepted DH and he's happy with his new Doc too. Do you know any moms from Andie's preK class? THey might be able to suggest a good Doc.
