Title: Terrible Twos?!?!?!?!

Stringaling - July 10, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
I have never experienced this. My other two kids were so easy-going and compiant...My two year old is driving me up the wall!!! He is stubborn and is refusing tp eat what I give him. In our house we don't cater to stubbornness and fix special meals. You eat what is provided or you don't eat at all. Also we have the rule that you don't hold out for a better meal next time. If you refuse to eat it now, it'll be warm and waiting for you at the next meal time...We have avided so much frustration and attitude with this policy with the other two, but Isaac... :wall: :wall: He just refuses and purses his lips together and turns awy and tries to push his dish away... What the heck?!? How do I handle this??

Duct tape, a clothes pin and a stun gun?

Worked for my parents... okay so I have an occasional nervous tick where my arms shoot out to the side and I convulse on the floor for 20 minutes..... But other than taht I'm fine....

Sometimes I really feel like grabbing the duct tape...

Huh, been there done that...he's only 2. He'll snap out of it eventually.

Beware of the 3's....if he's this bad now....he could turn worse. Yeah, just thought that should cheer you up. :P

Yeah, the 3s are much worse than the 2s

I would keep doing what you are doing. Eventually he'll get hungry enough to where he'll eat. I don't think any 2 year old ever died of starvation out of stubborness.

Yeppers, he won't die of starvation.....it's TOTALLY a power struggle thing.

If you react the exact same way every time (meaning stick to your guns and don't give in), eventually he'll realize that he ain't gonna win! May take him awhile, and he'll probably try it again at some later date, but pretty soon this power struggle will be over.........but stay tuned for next time....... B)

Now, see for me, 2 and 3 weren't that bad, but 4 is kicking my butt. :bonk: :wall:

Duct Tape, Stun Gun, and lots of groovy meds.....

Stun gun to be used to shock self into unconsciousness.. if you're out cold you can't hear them whine.... plus the tingly sensation when you wake up is way cool.....

Honey - July 10, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
Raspy....you're scaring me! That what you're gonna do to this kid of yours? :P

Sarah - July 10, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
I kinda like Raspy's parenting philosophies :D

If the child is anything like me... HELL YES!!!!!

If the child is like my wife I shouldn't have to.....

Seriously.. though I would never intentionally electorcute a cute cuddly baby.... now one that's being a right little get...... It's nickname will be BBQ

I don't condone the use of stunguns on children, and I really don't see that changing, but oh man it will be tempting some days...

But like i said.. the stun gun is to knock yourself out so you can avoid listening to the whine..... not to be used on the kiddo's... too much money in Dr. bills if you do that stuff and the legal consequences... dont' get me started...... plus it aint' cool... now if you give the runt a stun gun and you duel... maybe..... but not unarmed.....

And lemme tell ya', brother.......5 ain't the magic cutoff. Andie's 'tude has continued...... :smack:

I'm at the point to where if she shows me attitude, I stop in the middle of WHATEVER we're doing, WHEREVER we are and ask her to please say that again in a nice way. And I wait......and wait......and wait.

Until she does. Just started this in the past week and I must say the instances of
'tude have been S-L-O-W-L-Y getting further and further apart.

When my daughter tries to start the attitude stuff. we cut it short as soon as it starts...Aint no child of mine gonna be up in my face back talking and bein mouthy!!!!

Bring out that "rod of correctin"!

And so we all live happily ever after...She realizes life is more pleasant when she is respectful and obedient...

When they throw tantrums or start whining I kindly ask them to finish the tantrum in their rooms. I tell them it won't change my mind, it won't get them out of doing their chores, and if they really feel like they need to be fussy, Please go do it in your room because I really don't like to hear it..Usuallythey straighten up after that, but there have been instances when they took me up on the offer. Mostlly my daughter-and she'd go into her room and scream and cry till she got it all out..

andiesmama - July 11, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
Yep, that's what we did. Timeouts (like in the living room or something) never worked, it was the audience that fed the tantrums, we found.

So, the instant a tantrum began, it was off to her room with the door shut. Even now, when she's being :quote: anti-social :quote: I"ll ask her to go to her room until she can be in a better mood and be pleasant around other people.

Bedrooms only work "temporarily"...or around here, anyway. Then it's just an escape (especially when you're 9). So.....instead of grilling and drilling, we let him go to his room to chill, but when he comes out like, 5 minutes later, he apologizes and all is well again. Honestly, I think our kids are fairly simple to discipline...for now.
