Title: Squat's NEW computer...

squatpuke - June 27, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
.
.
So for the past few month's I've been putting together a new computer system...

I still have to buy the Chip/VideoCard/and HSF....but other than that I'm ready to go.

Here are some specs...

Dell 24" (yes twenty four inches of LCD glory) 2407WFP LCD Monitor - $600
Antec Nine Hundred Case - $100
4GB's of Crucial DDR2-800Mghz 6400 RAM - $140
WD 150GB Raptor 10Krpm HD - $170
Abit AB9 QuadGT mobo - $130 (plus 6$ floppy to flash bios)
Logitech G15 Keyboard, G5 Mouse - $100
LiteOn 20x DL DVD - $35

Need to buy...

Intel E6600 C2D - $220
eVGA 8800GTX Video Card - $520 (OUCH!!)
Zalman9700 HSF - ($65)

Kinda have been waiting for the prices to drop...July 22, Intel's Quad core is supposed to drop from $500 to about $250...so I figure my chip would fall in price also.

The Video card is simply outrageous...but it is the top dog right now in PCIe cards and I need the umph to push all those pixels to the 24" lcd.

Got Battlefield2 for my Birthday and I'm looking forward to some fraggin'.

out of curiosity, an I'm drunk an on my lap top keyboard which sucks, an my main house system died some time over th elast month... absoultely unknown to anyone round... which reminds me of this cow that dropped a calf who got hung up an "no one" seemed to notice... lolng story.. anyways... why are you goin wit the e6600 instead of the e6700? Whats made you choose th e one over the other?

I'm back in the search for another system....

The E6700 is a benjamin more w/all specs the same other than the multiplier...ie, it's the same chip as the E6600.

E6600 are easily overclocked....

Might as well just get the E6600 C2D and o/c.

Addicted2~Jesus - July 4, 2007 01:51 AM (GMT)
I agree, all they've done was run up the clock speed an I'll be derned if'n I'm spendin an extra 100 bucks for 0.06 ghz... I can fart on the sysytem an git that much outta it hehe

Le'me ask this cause I don't actually know, I suspect though, does the duo core e 'series' if you will, support 32 bit systems are are they stock 64 bit an nuthin 32 bit will work? I am petty sure the e's an the ee's will all work wit 32 bit sysytems, would only worry bout the quad-core stuff... I hate window shoppin.... makes me drule to much hehehe

They'll handle both 32 and 64 bit XPP or Vista.

It's a good chip...

7/22 they are droppin' prices on the Q's....almost 50%...from $500 to $250-300.

I'm hopin' the E6600 drops a bit also...

My bigger expence is that stink'in video card.....

Saw it today the cheapest ever at $483 AR.

Addicted2~Jesus - July 4, 2007 12:06 PM (GMT)
Yeah that's the problem I have as well.... I know lil to nuthin bout this pci-e stuff to begin wit an I run all agp's an still have some life out of the very expensive cards I have already bought, so I've been lookin at the dual agp/pci-e boards, but reallly looks like I'll jes shoot mysef in the foot wit that as well. I jes wasn't quite ready to go an build a new system, but it would appear I'm jes bout on my last leg wit my home system. It was a used board when I bought it 5 years ago.... jes annoyin that it an that power supply in my bunk crapped out bout the same time... works never done.

I haven't specifically looked up the card your wantin, but if your jes wantin to play thins like battlefield 2 an 2142, my ati 9600xt handles them very well. That's an old card now, er by todays standards, but I would imagine you could do more wit less money then that geforce card.

I pretty much gave up on nvidia... an wouldn't you know bout the time I did, everbody started really caterin towards em lol, I've had to many of em jes flat burn up, run to hot, their like amd used to be, jes shove more power into the thin, it 'oughta' work, an they was jes burnin em up.

I'll havta look up this vid card an see what's so special bout it. Like the ati 9600, they've got 8 pipelines, which I know is slow these days, but I wouldn't actually think they'be be more then 16 an jes rammed up to 600+ mhz on the memory... haven't a clue what the gpu's are runnin at right now though.

Well, jes a quick gander an I see this thin is a frickin monster... look at the frickin cooler for this thin.. good night, well I see the mhz speed on the memory is insane, 2.0 no wonder it needs a frickin air conditoner mounted on it. This auction is an oem one day sale at 420 an 20 shippin. I would imagine there's a diamond in the rough runnin round somewheres, jes havta spend hours lookin for em.

I have a couple MSI cards like this, one is still in operation, a geforce 2 mx I believe, the other was jes a small pci 32 meg card, that the fan finally gave up on. Are you thinkin bout jes gittin it from nvidia er are you opposed to buyin someone elses?

Sqaut, would you post a link for the memory you got, I haven't seen anythin near the 4gigs = 140 bucks. Thus far everthins quite a bit more then that. There's some 667 sticks that would come close to the 140 mark, but none of the 800's. I might be missin sumthin, been a lil foggy this week.

Dude...that was after rebate....which I haven't got in the mail yet.

But if you search NewEgg or Buy.com you should EASILY find RAM for that price or better...AR of course.

RAM is super cheap right now...

Tiger usually has good prices too...

Tiger has a good selection...and I'll shop there if I can find a deal...however, I typically find better deals at NewEgg. And I always get the goods within a few days.

Sqaut, le's talk a bit more here. Why did you choose to go wit nvidia over ati? I was a die hard nvidia holder but after the geforce 2 mx flop I had I gave ati another shot. Now I'm thinkin bout toyin wit nvidia agin. btw, had you seen they have brought out the geforce 8 8800 ultra? One step up from the GTX? I'm toyin wit the 8800 GTS because of cost personnaly.

Had you ever messed wit em ATI cards? As I understand it now, AMD has their nasty lil hands into everthin ati by choice, but I do not like amd chips, an I'm worried it'll filter down into the ati gpu's.

I've never been an ATI fan...most of our Dell's here at work have them and they have not given us any problems.

I have an old nVidia card at home and it has served me well....

Currently, the GTX is the top dog PCIe....

I'm not 100%, but I think the Ultra is just a handpicked, overclocked GPU. The GTX is supposed to overclock very nicely so I'm just going to the standard GTX and OC a bit if/when I ever need too.

The GTS is the big competitor to ATI's top dog right now (2900)...however, ATI's card sucks WAY MORE juice than nVidia's GTS...infact, more than the GTX also. Imagine running any of the GTX,GTS, or ATI's card now in SLI or Crossfire...you'd need a nuclear plant to supply the power.

nVidia is, for sure, the top video card right this second...

However, I've heard in Q4 of 2007. the G9X series card for nVidia is supposed to blow the GTX outta the water...

I'm sure it'll cost 2 arms and a leg...but wow.

As of this second...unless you have a huge LCD (like my 24") then the GTS is supposed to be a kick ass card...I'm only gettin' the GTX because of my LCD.

I'd also opt for the 640mg GTX instead of the 320.
