Title: Tell me what to do
LynnMcG - May 30, 2007 10:57 PM (GMT)
You heard, me. I'm not ever going to say this again. But I need direction and assistance. So tell me what to do.
My DHs high school reunion is August 3. I just realized two of his ex girlfriends, his most significant ex's will be there. I need to look REALLY good. Really good. But, I have a bunch of weight to lose. A bunch. I'm not going to reach my goal weight by then. I know that. BUT, I need MAXIMUM weight loss by the first week in August. I started Weight Watchers 3 weeks ago, so I'm working it from that end. I've been riding my bike with my kids at least three times a week. I walk back and forth to school (probably a mile all told) 5 days a week. I know it's not enough. I'm thinking I need like a hollywood exercise program. Like 5 - 8 hour workouts for the next two months.
I have no gym membership, and I can't afford one right now anyway. I own a bicycle and a recumbent bike. I have lots of exercise DVDs, balance ball, etc.
Where's Doris when I need her?
What do you gym rats suggest? I need a workable plan for a mom on a budget.
Oh, and thanks

Go vegan till then..Seriously..Every Lent I lose nearly 10 lbs with no exercise and only change in diet...I could send you some links to good vegan recipe sites if you want...You could just substitute some of your regular diet for vegan..I'm sure every little bit would help....

Look into precontest bodybuilding diets. The tenants are essentially that you have a high protein, low carb diet then begin cutting out carbs a little bit each week until the last 2 weeks before the contest where you cut them out completely. Stay away from salt and drink lots of water at first but when you start getting close to the contest (or in your case the reunion) you begin to limit your water and try to sweat a bunch of it out via running, jogging or biking. It is really unhealthy to maintain a diet like this but if you do it for one cycle you should be fine. Don't try and keep the weight off by keeping away from water and carbs- you'll end up crashing and if you don't you just end up looking sickly. By dropping water weight you'll be surprised how much difference that makes in your appearance!
Hope this helps!

OK, interesting ideas...
String, I've gone vegetarian before. I liked it. But I didn't really lose weight.
Seige, that sounds like an idea...but it sounds SO brutal! (imagining a glass full of raw egg whites)
I'm thinking that I need to move more. I think I need a personal trainer of sorts. Someone to tell me how much cardio I need every day, how much toning, stretching, etc. I can easily cut down on my eating. But then I need to fuel my body properly too. I sort of feel like I'm not sure where to begin.

Take your skinniest girlfriend and have her go to the reunion in your place.

wow... now THAT is a good idea!
In all seriousness I know that a precontest diet sounds crazy (and unhealthy) but I think just holding true to the principals (high protein, low carb, more cardio, plenty of water but NO salt) might be easier. Dropping a lot of weight in 2 months is kind of crazy and the chances of you keeping it off are minimum. I've always read that losing 2-4 lbs. a week is steady and not too drastic so you'll see results that will stick around. As far as diet goes I would say that these things helped me out-
If you cut out all carbs right away you'll drop weight but your body will go into keitois (sp?) and will retain some fat (as if you were starving it) and eat muscle.
If you don't drink a lot of water all the time your body tends to hold it b/c you aren't consistent- it doesn't know when it's going to get water next. Set an alarm and drink 2 glasses of water every 3 hours and see how that alone works on weight loss. Eventually you can begin to limit the amount of water you drink and you'll "dry out" leaving you "appearing" thinner.
I wouldn't waste my time with a trainer. My brother is a trainer and talking with him and his buddies that are trainers they have all essentially said that very few clients reach their goals when they come meet with a trainer. Most people just come for the accountability and might get a little healthier but for the most part we're talking only a few pounds lost. Occasionally they say that they get someone who is healthy beforehand and they want to put on some weight and they are already "health nuts" so they will do well but this doesn't happen very often. Find a friend who will help you out (not your husband), make a competition with some girlfriends (put $50 in a pot each and whoever loses the most weight in 2 months gets it all (go on BF% not weight)), try something like this and I bet you'll see more results!

Good! Put them to use! :whip:
Drink lots of green tea... known to be a metabolism booster and you will literally pee your socks off (if you're wearing any this time of year. :P) Same with water. Do your dvds involve weights? Use them. If you don't have hand weights, use bottles of water or cans of soup.
Don't just "walk"...POWER WALK. Don't slouch. Stand and sit like there's a rod up your back....your posture alone makes a big difference.
Firming lotion/body wash. If your skin feels good, you will too. Have a hand roller? Rub it all over to help circulation. Or use the
dry brush method.
Most important, if you're determined enough you CAN do it. You CAN motivate yourself. Even if you don't "feel like it"...DO IT!
Been there, done that, still doing....B)
Good luck!
Oh, and if all else fails....take Squat's suggestion. :haha:

Not just vegetarian--Vegan! No dairy products or eggs whatsoever..Cuts out LOTS of fat and calories when you can't have ranch dressing or cheese on that salad. Makes it really difficult to find tasty things to eat, but cutting all that meat and dairy fat and fat calories does make an impact...As long as you don't make up for it with extra eating..

Umm best course of action is to take the F**K them all attitude, and realize that you're obviously the hottest between the three since Tommy chose YOU and didn't stay with them.....
Be confident in yourself, the rest will follow, when you become more confident in yourself you tend to care what happens to your body more, diets work better exercise works better, most things work better, just be sure you don't go too far and end up in hubris....

You are beautiful Lynn and Tommy loves YOU!!

It's what I fel my wife needs to remember when she comes across something that reminds her of my exes.... I figure that it should follow logic that most hubbies should feel this way about their wives (personally I think that if you dont' feel that way about your spouse you don't belong with them becasue you don't deserve something that good, and they don't deserve to be treated so bad)

Just some food for thought...
I went away w/ DH for the wknd. It was a work related wknd so his co workers - bosses and their spouses were there. Anywho...I was putting on make-up and DH came up to me in the bathroom and said "You don't need any of that...you are beautiful w/o it"... :booyah: Anywho...kind of corny but be who you are for TOmmy...not for his exes...He's going home with you :)

UPDATE:
I got sidelined with an injury.
Over the Memorial Day weekend I fell off my bike. Long story, but basically the frame is too big for me. hey, it was a freebie. What can I say. Anyway, I didn't bruise or anything but it was sore. I pushed myself last week, walking 3 & 4 miles a day plus walking back and forth to school for the kids. Now I'm in a lot of pain. Like, maybe-it's-time-to-go-to-the-emergency-room pain. I'm bummed. I was really having fun moving as much as I was.

Oh Lynnie~~go & get yourself checked out.....praing for speedy healing!!

Don't overdo it!! The reunion is just one weekend and all this pressure to impress someone who won't even care past Monday is too much...
If you're still in that much pain go the doctor. If not take 800 mg of ibuprophin to help reduce inflamation and pain...

Please use common sense and take things easy!
Maybe this accident was a sign for you to just slow it down? I agree with what everyone here has said already. Tommy married YOU. He will go home with YOU. Screw whatever the deal is with these "exes". It's just not worth it.

Wanna have a little fun? Do it the other way! Load up on sugar and gain about 40 lbs before the reunion! Then go in on Tommy's arm!
:rolf:
nah - seriously don't do that... :nono:

Two thoughts:
1. Is there a high school near you? If so, run the bleachers.
2. When was the last time you saw these other two women? It is possible that either or both of them may have ballooned up since then.
