Title: I decided to wait
Description: until I was actually stickin' with it...

clayman - May 14, 2007 08:38 PM (GMT)
OK, since March, I've been hitting the gym steady. At least two days every week, some weeks 4-5x. Here's what I did Thursday last week:

Leg Press 5 sets 10 reps 100 lbs
Leg Extension 5 sets 10 reps 40lbs
Ab Crunch 3x10@65lbs
Assisted chin-ups 1x9 - 119lb assistance (250-119=131lbs lifted)
Assisted dips 2x10, 1x6 - 119lb assistance
Back extension 5x10@100lbs
Row/Rear Delt 5x10@50lbs
Lat Pulldown 5x10@50lbs
curls 5x10@40lbs
tricep extension 5x10@40lbs
Chest Press 5x10@40lbs
Overhead Press 3x10@30lbs
Leg Curl 5x10@65lbs
Elliptical - 12 minutes (1200 strides)
Treadmill - 20 minutes@ 6 mph

Now - before anyone starts razzin' my :butt: about how little it is, remember that I really just started in March for real and the important thing is that I've kept with it regularly. :)

My arms are already showing it! But I'm staying at 249-251lbs. My pants don't fit anymore (without a belt) so my stomach's going down. And, my man-boobs are getting bigger - not smaller...

Shouldn't this post be in the ladies section?

squat's such an @$$hole!

Way to keep with it! How old are you Clay? I've heard that with older guys who are carrying a lot of weight they tend to get bigger "man-boobs" before they start dropping the fat. If you want to try and counteract that you can hit the cardio more and go lighter on chest days (reps over weight).

If you are feeling good about this I'd say go to the basic three- squats, bench and deadlifts. If you can do those (even at light weights) you'll be surprised how much you'll notice strength-wise. What I'd do in your situation is hit the basic three three times a week and hit the cardio heavy I bet you'd do really well making a lot of gains where you want and losses where you want too!

I'm 41.

Yeah, I'm doing the light-weight and lotsa reps for most lifts. I figured if I could do 10 chin-ups, I'd reduce the assistance.

Had an injury. Wrestling with the kids and my oldest dropped a knee right below my shoulder blade. I can still do most lifts, but those that use the latissimus dorsi hurt like heck. I think it's bruised. I'll give it a couple of days.

Today I did pretty good, though. Upped the leg press to 130 and increased some of the others.

What's a deadlift? I'm using all machines - still a little nervous about free weights...

seige - May 15, 2007 04:42 AM (GMT)
Start light but free weights will work more muscles per lift...

Deadlift

See, Squat thinks he's the Lifter of lifters. And, he may be. So anyone who admits that they are not lifting what he is - they're gonna get hammered. Hence my response.

I took no offense bro. Not like the time you suggested feeding a dog antifreeze... :violin:

Oh - and what the heck's creatine?

And how do you install java on FireFox on Linux so I can watch the Ronnie Coleman video CJ sent?

If you haven't yet heard of creatine supplementation you soon will. It is being promoted as a muscular performance enhancer, and there is scientific evidence to support this.

Of course, the article's from Houston (Rice University - I've got a friend that's a physics professor there)...

Too intense for me. I'll stick with "dietary (animal flesh)" for mine, thank you!

Once again I forget that you can't see the smile on my face when I am calling you an a-hole- just a joke! I know you weren't serious!

BTW squat what do you squat? I'm not a powerlifter by any measure but I'm just curious what I'm up against.

Well, today I did the whole thing. Worked out the bruise in my shoulder.

'Course, I couldn't do any cardio for some reason. ust plain outta breath. Must be the nice weather. I had to go outside to get my heart going.

Heck, if I'd seen that fireball up close and personal before my workout, I could've been up there in no time... :yikes:

clayman - May 23, 2007 03:04 AM (GMT)
Worked out last night at the Corpus Christi YMCA. All the machines are different than what I'm used to. The weight plates didn't have weights, just numbered from 1 to 20. They didn't count the same, though. I figured 130 lbs on the leg press is plate 8 (20 lb. increments, starting with 10). When I put the leg press on 8, there was no way I could lift it. Of course, that leg press machine was a lot different than the one I'm used to. It had a sled for the body. The foot-plate was stationary and the body sled moved. Weird!

Anyway, I did 5 sets of 10 reps on all my usual machines. I have no idea what the weights were. Tomorrow morning, I'm going back, but I'll use the machines with the bars on them and load the disks - whatever the heck you call those things.
