Title: I want this......

How cool is this? I know the new iPhone uses "multi-touch" technology - and some things have it out right now - but nothing to the extent of what is shown in this video. I know it'll take awhile for this technology to make its way into the home user niche - but man..it'd be sooooo sweeet!!!

Reminds me of the computers that they use in the movie, Minority Report.

It is cool, but I can see very limited application outside the supercomputer arena.

At my wife's almost former employer, I visited a room where they did 3-D visualizations of seismic data. It was like you were standing in the ground and looking around. You could actually see the strata and visualize where the oil pockets were. Again, it took a Cray XMT (with over a thousand CPUs) to run the thing.

To run the hardware in that video, with all the 'windows' that were open, you'd need a high-speed processor (>3GHz) for each window, plus a way to integrate all the threads into one gigantic video feed.

To run this on a Mac would be, I fear, fairly pointless.

But, I agree, it is cool.

But it is cool.

Hey - when our houses are completely run by supercomputer (like the Gates Fortress), then I can see this.

When I wrote about the Cray, I went to their website and applied for a job in Wisconsin. :)

That's not a house - it's a fortress! I bet you could find Bin Laden hanging out there....
