Well, I have a Fortigate 60 WI-FI Firewall with 79 Mbps Throughput which includes AV, Web Content filtering (for you GUYS) IPS and Anti-Spam/spyware :cheeky:
Honey - February 8, 2007 08:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, well...same to you! :butt:
clayman - February 8, 2007 09:15 PM (GMT)
I have a Dell Optiplex GX110 (hand-me-down - I'd never buy a Dell!) 850MHz with 128MB RAM and 2 HDDs - 100GB and 10GB running Windows Server 2003, an HP Pavilion 7750 (hand-me-down - I'd never buy an HP!) 1.5GHz with 256MB RAM and 60GB HDD running Windows XP Pro and a home-grown ( ) 1.8GHz with 128MB RAM and 60GB HDD that I'm trying to install Linux on but it keeps :puke: on me.
I also have a cable modem (I think it's Toshiba), a D-Link router, a NetGear wireless access point, a D-Link phone adapter (from AT&T) and a Motorola phone adapter (from Vonage).
The cable comes in to the demarc in what should be called the "Formal Dining Room" that we primarily use for lessons. It hasn't had a table since we moved in. That's where the hardware inthe second paragraph resides, along with the XP computer. I fished a CAT-5 cable from that room (crimped the ends myself!) into an unused bedroom that has always been my computer room where it plugs into a KTI 16-port 10-Base-T hub. From there, the two servers are hard-wired to the internet. This was all done before I purchased the wireless access point.
Questions? :gotcha: :hmm:
Golfingmom - February 8, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)

Yes, it was free. :thanks:

Guys, clear this up for me, will ya?
Clay says Dell sucks...Squat says to get Dell....
Our computer is starting to head downhill. Why or why not should we get or not get Dell?

Save yourself some serious cache (pun intended!) - go to a techie and have them build one for you.
About three years ago, we went to my favorite place in the world:
Fry's 'cuz they were advertising a 1.5GHz with 40GB HDD, XP and 128MB for only $289. It was a fantastic deal at the time, and came with a two-year in-house warranty. The brand name of the machine is Fry's in-house
Great Quality brand.
Well last summer, it wouldn't power on. I backed up my HDD and took it in under the warranty. Knowing what I know about computers, I surmised (correctly) that something had failed on the system board. Well, they called me back and said it was indeed the motherboard and asked if they could put a 1.8GHZ chip instead of a 1.5. I said, "Thank you!"
You would not get the same service from any big-name computer company like HP or Dell or Gateway. They'll give you a run-around, whack your data and give you a worse machine than what you originally had. And, it will take weeks without your computer - right, Andiesmama?
If you can't do something like that locally, go with Tiger Direct.
Support your local Techie!!!!

I agree with the Clayman....
If you can't custom build and MUST buy retail, go with Dell...IMHO.
JUST DO NOT BUY A WARRANTY. If it has a meltdown, it should within the first few months. Everything else is do it your self...

I like what Mac has to offer now. Intel-based (so you can actually run Windows on it, too!), with a Unix-based OS ( it's finally got a command-line!) and still kicks @$$ on graphics, video and sound. If I had the $$$ or if someone would throw one of those away like people throw away PCs, I'd get one too!

"Windows Expert to Redmond: "buh-bye"" Scot Finnie
Linky| QUOTE |
Bye-bye Windows! My three-month Macintosh trial has ended, but my permanent gig with the Mac is just getting started. Apple's MacBook Pro and Mac OS X are now my computer and operating system of choice.
If you give the Mac three months, as I did, you won't go back either. The hardest part is paying for it -- everything after that gets easier and easier. Perhaps fittingly, it took me the full three-month trial period to pay off my expensive MacBook Pro. But the darn thing is worth every penny. |
| QUOTE |
| After living with the Mac for three months and comparing it with my Vista experiences, the choice is crystal clear. I've struggled to sort out my gut feeling about Windows Vista (see "The Trouble with Vista"), but the value and advantage of the Mac and OS X are difficult to miss. While I continue to work with Windows XP and Vista on a number of other machines, I am now recommending the Macintosh for business and home users. |

Oh - and spell it right - it's 'nuff said.
For those who care - I've been struggling for the better part of two weeks to get Fedora Core 6 (linux) installed on my 1.8GHz 128MB machine. After :screwy: with it for two solid weeks - downloading iso's, checking hashes, burning CDs, verifying the CDs are correct, etc. - I splurged and dropped $20 on a 256MB stick. (Geesh - I remember when it was $100 for 1MB - now it's around $80 for 1GB!)
In other words, I upgraded the RAM.
And I tried installing it again - this time it's working. Apparently, the problem is that 128MB isn't enough. But I searched and searched for a minimum system requirements. I know 128 was enough to run FC1. Why not 6?
Ah, well - it works now.
