It's the main HDD (OS) for my webserver. Dang! Just when I get everything the way I like it, the thing goes and blows up in my face! What 2 do? What 2 do?

Wish I had one iota of understanding to offer you some kind of supportive comment here. I'm only posting to let you now that I did read this. I'm sure I'm supposed to be bummed for you, and if I could help you I certainly would. God bless brother.

B)
I learned long ago, mostly 'cuz I like to format and re-load Wind-blows, that it's best if I store my data on a separate partition from my OS. On this occasion, I slapped the OS on a tiny 10GB drive, and put all my data on a 100GB drive.

In other words, the data's still in tact.

Funny thing - I rebooted and it's running fine! Downloading Fedora Core 6 (5 CD ISOs) right now! :)

This conversation is only one a "techie" could appreciate. Especially the porn joke.

I just dl'd FC6 about 2 weeks ago...went with the 3.2 gig DVD ISO instead. Cheaper than 5 CD's....

How's it running for you? I've installed the thing three times and my machine keeps locking up at different points. It's a 1.8GHz machine, for cryin' out loud! Well, it's only got 128MB RAM. Maybe that's the problem.

rasplundjr - February 8, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
Need to get a spare drive and try Fedora... I've been off linux for a while... I should try it again....

Still testing....

I tri-booted with XPP, Vista and FC6....1 HD, 3 partitions.

Installation went ok....GRUB starts first, then if Windows is selected, refers to the Window's (Vista) boot manager which has drastically changed....then I can select which Windows OS. Has two boot mangers.

As of last week, I wasn't able to get my dual monitor span to work in FC6.

Just too much to do at work to play with xorg.conf.

I picked up an extra video card. Trying to figure out if I really want to do it or not. I've got a KVM between my WindBlows server and my linux (@#(*%(#*(@#%*^@#*)^ box.

The friggin' install keeps hanging up. I need to review the basic requirements for FC6.

Anyone got some extra memory lying around you don't need? Something like a 1GB stick would be really nice...

WILL WORK FOR RAM

UPDATE!!!
The HDD finally gave out. It would boot - but it was taking over 30 minutes to get to a login screen. So, I went out and bought a 250GB Seagate PATA100 for $49.95 at Fry's. 'Course, when I went to the local Fry's store, it was an online-only deal. I had to come back and order it online. Free ground shipping, though, so I only had to pay tax.

I'm setting it up now. I'm typing this on a newly-loaded XPP on an 850MHz with 256MB RAM. :P Eat your heart out, Squat!

BTW - if you ever get bored with your new toy, ya know, like, maybe the Wii is better than the 29" and Quad-core, etc... Let me know. I'll drive to Flagstaff and pick it up!
