Title: New wedding bands
LynnMcG - January 18, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
I asked Tommy if he wouldn't mind if I got a new wedding band for our anniversary this year (not till August, so I'm giving him plenty of time to save). He thought it was a good idea. He thought it should be wide enough to engrave "Thanks for putting up with all of my sh*t for the last 16 years." But I don't know that I could find a ring to fit that! Maybe we'll go for "I am my beloved's and my beloved's is mine" instead. Seems a little more romantic.
Have any of you replaced your wedding bands? Would you? Upgrades? Change of style? I know we talked about new engagement rings when Redguard was shopping for Mrs. Redguard's new ring. But did we talk about wedding bands?

Bah. We bought anniversary bands on our 10th and that's it. This whole upgrading thing is idiotic in MY personal opinion. I like my rings just fine. B) No way I'd drag hubby through all that when he worked hard to get what we've got.
If ANYthing, engraving what I've got wouldn't be a bad idea.

My DH bought ours as a set - two wedding band and an engagement ring from a discount department store. He always intended to upgrade. So I don't feel guilty or anything. I just wanted a more updated look. Not necessarily an upgrade. I'm not looking for platinum or diamonds. The one I like best cost less than $400 I think.

What do you think of this one:

Or this one:

This one says "love of my heart" in gaelic.

And this is the last one, Tommy's favorite:

I like this one.

I'm wondering how wise it is to get a band with that much art on it. They're all custom-made, but if you had to resize it one day, you couldn't because of the art.

After getting her new engagement ring, Mrs. Red now wants a new wedding band. :|
A part of me feels like saying, "If I'm buying a new wedding band, then I'm getting a new wife" But let's not go there. :)

I REALLY wanted a new engagement ring. But we're really trying to save money and pay down debt, so I don't want to push that. Maybe one day... The wedding ring seems more reasonable, plus I'm looking at wider bands that won't really allow me to have an engagement ring. So it's a total win-win for my DH.

I cannot comprehend wanting a new ring....I don't get it...Maybe I'm just out of the loop???

Could alter the one you already have (same stones in a new setting) or do you mean "upgrade"?
I looked at new settings for my rings but haven't made a change - yet. :thanks:

I wouldn't change ANY of mine for anything. B) Original is always the BEST.

I think my husband bought the rings our over-bearing BIL told him to buy for me. He was newly saved, and my BIL has control issues and used Tom's newness in his walk to totally take advantage. Granted, we did have inheritance and I wouldn't have wanted him to blow it on my ring. But he didn't get me anything we talked about. He got what my BIL and SIL told him to get. And I know it's always bothered him.
What's most precious to both of us, are the plain gold bands we bought when we eloped. That ring will always be on both our hands.

Eventually I might Get a wider band for myself.... If and When I upgrade Misty's....
I also want to get a celtic knot "wedding band" tatoo to go uner the wider band (hence the wider band to hide the tat for work but if I take my ring off to work on a computer or anything else that might A) destroy the ring or B) endanger me by wearing it and performing said maintenance I'd still have my ring with me always......

Matt lost his wedding band a couple of months ago. It fit him during warm weather, but was always too big when it got cold. He was planning on buying a second ring for winter time, when it fell off while he was outside talking a walk with Christopher and he didn't realize until he got home. He looked for it for several days and then gave up. He's planing on replacing it. I might replace mine, or have it sized or something, when I'm done being pregnant and my fingers go back to normal.

I would never change out my engagement ring....I've already gone there with my explanation I think in Red's thread awhile back.... B)
I'd never get a new wedding band, either, one reason being is that it was my grandmother's.
Maybe I'm too sentimental, but I feel like the meaning would be lost, somehow, with a new ring.....dunno if that makes sense or not.
That's not to say I'd love an anniversary band or eternity ring for my other hand, tho..... B)
LynnMcG - January 19, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
Raspy, I wanted to get a celtic "ring" tattooed on my left hand too. And despite the fact that my DH wants his whole back inked, he does not want to get rings like that.
Sarah - January 19, 2007 04:32 AM (GMT)
I would never "upgrade" or get a new ring. I love my ring for what it represents not for what it looks like. Not that I don't like it or anything, we picked ours out together. We both have just plain gold bands. I have always thought about getting them engraved on the inside though but not sure with what. I think it's special that the ring I'm wearing is the ring we got married with. I hated having to take it off for the last couple months of pregnancy. I felt so "naked" without it.
