Title: How do we keep our kids safe?
andiesmama - January 5, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
:( ....... it just breaks my heart. Back in September a 7 y.o. girl was found murdered, her body was found very close to her home.
What kills me is she wasn't snatched off the street....she didn't let go of her mom's hand in a shopping center.....her dad checked on her at 2 am & she was in her bed, when they went in to wake her up at 7 am, she was gone. Her body was found around noon that same day.
They just gave an update, still no suspects but they discovered evidence of sexual battery. The police chief stated statistics that 80% of all abuctions occur within a QUARTER MILE of the child's home, most abductors are a friend or acquaintance. Less than 1% of child murders are by a stranger.
You can't even lock your kids in the house & throw away the key...evidently even our homes aren't safe anymore.
Sorry for the depressing topic, it's just something that really disturbs me and I feel so helpless! You can train your kids all you want about "stranger danger" but how does that help when somebody steals them from your house in the middle of the night???

You can pray. After locking your doors and windows, what else can you do every day?
If we took everything that we read on the internet and newspapers or saw on TV, we could be paralized in our fear. But we can't be. The world will get worse before Jesus' return. We know to expect this. The bible tells us NOT to be afraid. Don't give satan a foot hold in this. Don't allow him to make you fearful. In the end, that's really all we can do.

 :agree:
You can also set up an alarm system in your home if you are fearful. I have a few friends who did this when a girl was kidnapped from her room in California.
I'm a HEAVY sleeper but my husband can hear a pin drop during the night so that helps me.
I also swaped our guest room with our kids room so they are right next to our room now. :dunno:

They work full-time at our house, too.....and I ain't afraid to use 'em! :guns:
BUT when you check on your kid before you go to bed, then sleep and don't hear a thing, then go to get them up for school & they're not in the bed.....
I have to use earplugs because Ty insists on snoring, so I wouldn't hear anything....luckily we've got a great watchdog, she'll bark at anything......

Hubby would hear it. He hears everything at night and jumps out of bed every time. Freaks me out some nights.

Me, I could sleep through the house caving in without hearing a thing. My wife, on the other hand, can hear a squirrel climbing a tree a block away - and ask me to investigate...

Build a Panic Room....
Lock kids in panic room til they are 50
MAke sure they have plenty of twinkies and water.....
Kids are safe......
Takes a lot of fun out of life.... and theree are still things that can go wrong.....
but that is the only way I can think of to keep kids the most safe.....
Robs them of their chance to live.

Raspybro's got a good point. Mark your calendars, too! Oh, sorry! :hmm:
I want to protect my kids. That's why I homeschool. I also want them to experience life. That's why we go to McDonald's.
Seriously. Between the hours of 6pm and 9pm, most McD's in our area are filled with kids playing in those tubes, even on a school night. We eat dinner, go to McD's, get a soda and a free kiddie-cone, and play. Mommy and Daddy chat, the kids play, and get a good dose of what the real world is like. They hear cursing. They see older kids make out. They ask "What's that?" and point to the fresh vomit on the floor.
OK - maybe it's not that bad. They do hear cursing, though.
