Title: Sean's going full day

LynnMcG - December 7, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
Sean's teacher asked me if she could have him for full-day preschool today. She said they've noticed more things that he's having trouble with and they think having him in school full day will help them to fix these issues before Kindergarten. I think they want him to start on Monday. :bored:

I'm kinda bummed. First, I don't want him in school all day. I just think it's too much. Then, I'm wondering if I've done anything wrong. But then I'm also thinking, all of this is irrelevent. Because what really matters is what's best for him. So...I'm still kinda bummed.

awwwwww......

First of all, you KNOW it's nothing YOU did momma!! :smack:

I know it'll be hard to let him go full time but you were right when you said it's all about what's best for him....

Plus, now you'll get to spend even MORE time online with us wacko-s!! :tease:

What kind of things would require them to keep him all day?

What String said...??? What would make him have to stay all day?

As a mom, always trust your instincts! If you don't think he's ready for full days, do not let the school pressure you into it!

You know you've done NOTHING wrong. I beat myself up over that same thing many, many times over Isaiah. Don't do that. It'll just wear you down and make you worry even more.

Another thing to remember. Although he's receiving treatment, progress takes time. You go with what you think is right. If it doesn't "feel" right, it probably isn't.

Just speaking from experience. :)

Honestly, my first instinct would be that if he is having enough problems that they want to work harder with him, then I would possibly consider that maybe he might not be ready for preschool at all and consider pulling him out and giving him another year to grow and mature a bit and then try again next year...I wouldn't want to force all day school on such a young child..He's barely past the baby years...

Thanks guys.

His issues are with speech (intelligibility - vocabulary is actually beyond his age) and fine motor skills. His teacher said she's noticing more issues like, not being able to button or trace. They're always telling me he should have been in the program a year earlier, but since he's not they think that extra time in school will help prepare him for Kindergarten.

Here's what I've been thinking. I want to see how well he does. I know he's making progress because his intelligibility has definately increased. There's going to be an adjustment period, where his little body and mind will have to get used to being in school all day. But if I feel after a few weeks it's too difficult for him, then I'll pull him out of the a.m. class. I can always opt to keep him home one more year.

Does that make sense?

Makes sense to me. Best of luck to you guys!

OK, signed the Child Study Team paperwork this morning. Bubba gets picked up at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning. He's getting double the ABA therapy, which is good. Plus, Santa is bringing him lots of stuff to work on his fine motor skill issues (play doh, Lincoln Logs, etc.).

I'll be a bit of a mess tomorrow I think...maybe a little disoriented all week without having him around in the morning.
