Title: My wife's NOT mad at me ANYMORE.
Description: used to be that she was...

DW believes I'm not the man I need to be. She's mad at me 'cuz:
1. Car needs more repairs than what we originally believed. Repair shop has agreed to eat the labor and just charge the difference between what we originally paid (labor and parts) and the new part. Basically, they're not making a dime on the repair. DW's mad at me because I "won't stand up for our rights" in this situation.

2. I'm committed to a prison ministry that she's not fond of in the first place. So every Thursday night, I'm supposed to be there. Well, one Thursday night I couldn't go because she needed the car and I couldn't get a ride. Another Thursday night she was sick so I stayed home to care for the kids while she slept.
Tonight, there are people in town from all over the world for a meeting. Last night she sprung it on me that I need to find someone to care for the kids because she's going to a company dinner. I said, "You're the one altering our plans, you find someone." Well, this short notice, we can't find anyone who will watch the kids for free (car ate up most of the money we have), and she's mad at me 'cuz she has to miss the big dinner.

Am I missing the point on these?

I can see the logic in what the garage offered us. She's threatening to get a lawyer. I can't argue her point because I believe she's wrong. But she won't listen to me on this, and she insists I go in and make the point that I don't believe in.

I also can't figure out why she's mad about my prior obilgations. I cleared this through her before I started this prison ministry back in September. I explained that I would be obligated for every Thursday until I quit or die - whichever comes first. It's important to me, and it's important to the prisoner I'm ministering to. But she doesn't like the idea of me checking into prison every week for the ministry. She believes that they're in prison because they've messed up their lives and they don't need someone coming in there to make their lives better. So it's my responsibility to clear every Thursday with her before I go. I think it's a load of crap.

I see your side on both issues.

The car thing.....if she thinks the repair shop is so totally in the wrong, then let HER fight it. As long as you've explained to her your point of view, and just stand your ground, the ball's in her court.

The prison thing....you're doing a real service by ministering there. You told her before you even started that Thursdays would be out. And BESIDES all of that, she sprung her dinner on you at the last minute. Childcare in that case is her responsibility, IMHO.

Sorry I don't have any solutions, I just wanted to let you know from a woman's perspective, I'm siding with you on these.... :)

I agree, too...

I'm surprised the mechanics would let you get off without paying labor on that one...Sounds like a good deal to me

Update - for those who are so bored they need an update on my boring life...

Car was repaired for the extra $170 (plus tax), with a written promise that if the check engine light comes on again within the next 12 months or 12,000 miles for the catalytic converter, they will refund every dime ($648.xx) that we spent on the thing so far. Wife was happy with the guarantee - which was my idea, by the way! :)

Couldn't get anyone to watch the kids, so wife and I stayed home that night and had a lot more fun with our kids than we would have at some stuffy office party (that took an entire exhibit hall at the Houston George R. Brown Convention Center!!!!) Wife was happy with that.

Girls started getting the flu last week. Little one on Tuesday, older one on Wednesday (she was :puke: in the back yard when we walked in from the Library with Star Wars episodes I - VI). Wife got it on Thursday. Me, I got a little dose on Saturday, but felt fine by Saturday night. Wife's still sick. Kids are feeling better but coughing like General Grievous.

Wife is very happy with me 'cuz I've been nursing everyone back to health, taking care of laundry, my oldest's bloody noses (running the A/C while she's blowing her nose all the time - does it to me, too!), cooking, cleaning the house, Christmas shopping online... She thinks I can do everything!

Now, don't none of you blow it and tell her the truth!!! :tease:
