Title: Uh... hi!
Description: I guess it's time we get aquainted...

Now that I've been throwin' my weight around and ticking people off all over this place I suppose I should open up and let them know who it is that's got all these opinions! Who is this guy who spells "siege" wrong anyway? Isn't he embarassed that everyone thinks he's a poor speller? Ask away!

Electric or gas?
Satellite, cable or rabbit ears?
Laser or inkjet?
Mountains or beach?
seige - October 19, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
The "seige" story goes back to a Sunday school class I taught where one kid wouldn't call me by my name it was always "siege" instead of CJ (my actual name). I always razzed him about it and one day he drew a picture of me and wrote my name under the picture of me "seige" and I've been using it on the internet ever since.
Electric, cable, inkjet, Mountains with trips to the beach (though I'm in Nor Cal right now and only see hills... I miss WA mountains!
clayman - October 19, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
You miss WA mountains, but do you miss the caliber of sailors in Bremerton? :)
I was on the Nimitz for a little while in '87-'88... I remember chatting about this with you last year! :)
seige - October 19, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
No, I don't miss Sailor Ned (Remember those videos?) at all. I hated teaching there because of all the messed up navy families. Kids would constantly be nuts while dad or mom was at sea!
clayman - October 19, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)
Man, I remember coming back from even a three-week deployment and seeing kids on the pier who wanted nothing to do with Dad. That's the biggest reason I didn't sign up to drive trucks in Iraq with my former employer, Halliburton after they outsourced their entire IT department.
Actually, I don't remember the videos of which you speak. Sorry...
Addicted2~Jesus - October 19, 2006 07:44 PM (GMT)
hmmm I musta missed sumthin but have you been tickin someone off round here? I mean.. isn't that MY job? I think I'll havta git STAFF involved here, I do not think I enjoy the encrouchment on my territory..............
seige - October 19, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
I haven't done the "forum argument with my wife" as you seem to often do but I have got up on my soapbox occasionally and made myself a target!
Addicted2~Jesus - October 19, 2006 08:04 PM (GMT)
Now jes hold on a sec.. what forum arguement have I ever had wit my wife?? I don't recall me havin none....
seige - October 19, 2006 08:20 PM (GMT)
I jes (that's how you say just in texan right?) notice that you will post things that are things you and the misses are arguing or disagreeing about on here and then you'll both be posting our sides on them. I guess it isn't a real "argument" per se but I think it's funny.

What is your least favorite class to teach and why?
What traits do you notice stand out in your better students?

Though I love to read I hate teaching reading. I love teaching writing, math, science, PE and Art but most schools are "Reading First" schools so you have to teach that the longest. I read some research once that if you just expose kids to literature enough they will eventually learn to read regardless of what you do so I feel like I should just plug my kids down in front of books and make them read for an hour and eventually they will get it on their own. I can teach them all the other stuff during writing or the other subjects!
I can always tell the students that will be successful in the future. It isn't the brightest kid in class or the one who turns in all their homework. It is the kid who works the hardest. It's the kid who may be behind but is working his @$$ off to catch up. What seems to happen often in middle school is your "smart kids" from elementary are used to slacking and continue that trait and start to fall behind. Your kids who were behind already and were slacking just stick with what they know and the kids who were working hard continue to work hard and they end up doing well and graduating top of the class. Today we took a test and the kids who did best weren't the kids done first they were the kids who checked their work and rechecked it to make sure they didn't make any simple mistakes!
Let's keep the questions coming- I'll try and check this a little more often!

What grade do you teach?
Like CA? :whip:
seige - April 27, 2007 03:20 AM (GMT)
I teach 5th grade at a low income school. It's a challenge but one I look forward to someday saying "You think that's bad?! When I was teaching down in CA..." so it is worth it.
I'm actually not a big fan of CA. It's not a dog-friendly place, the churches suck, the outdoors sucks (except for the weather), the hiking sucks, the people seem to be chasing more and more creative ways to get more and more money in their pockets. God has me here for a reason (maybe to appreciate home) and I will follow His guidance and help support my wife's dream to become a chiropractor and as soon as I see the "go" sign from God I'M OUTTA HERE!!!
Golfingmom - April 27, 2007 03:28 AM (GMT)
Yep...you live in Silicon Valley :P The East Bay isn't that bad...we're more relaxed, more family, for churchy :D
So...any children yet? What's taking so long?

We haven't figured out the kids thing yet... where do babies come from? I'm hoping to get a class going here on FHL complete with diagrams and pictures so I can figure it out... any suggestions?

What's your favorite restaurant?
seige - May 1, 2007 06:47 PM (GMT)
That's a tough one... I actually prefer a home-cooked meal from my wife (she's awesome!) but if I had to pick I think I'd have to go with the Toad House. It's a pizza and beer place in my hometown in WA. It's awesome! They have a cheeseburger pizza- so if you are indecisive you have it all!
