Title: Potty Training

LynnMcG - October 17, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
I just put Sean on the bus without a pull up. His teacher sent home a note yesterday - "Let's get Sean potty trained once and for all. Send him to school without pull ups tomorrow and some extra clothes." I said a prayer for Miss Amy and my boy.

When I told my husband what we were doing he told me I'd better send 10 pair of underwear with the boy. Nothing like optimism from your spouse, huh?

There is a good chance he isll use the toilet for the teacher. For mom and dad--he knows that he can get you to give up and give him pullups...Kids know they can often push the parents farther than teachers in some areas. Also he won't want to embarass himself in front of other kids

At age 4 is he going to preschool or somethign??

LynnMcG - October 17, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
Sean was classified preschool disabled so he attends our public school's handicap preschool program 5 days a week. His disability is speech. It's not a delay, but a motor function problem with his tongue. He has private speech lessons 3 days a week and one group session. He's doing much better. But the problem is he's speaking more, and MUCH faster, so he's even harder to understand now!!

I have a hard time understanding my 4 year old boy--I have wondered if there is a problem...It is getting better as he gows older though..

Let us know how his day went..

I will, thank you!

I think it's so awesome that Sean's teacher is willing to go the extra mile & help out with this....

I'm sure he'll do great! Let us know....

I like the teacher's attitude! Hope he has a good day!

On another note...Isaiah came home with FOUR soiled underwear today! :ticked: They sent a note asking me to send more than 3 underwear a day...FORGET IT. He had a total of 5 accidents ALL LAST YEAR. Don't give me this crud with his having accidents! I wish they'd get off their lazy asses and DO their JOB!!! :grump: I can't wait to give them shit tomorrow. I'm sick of washing so many underwear every single frickin' night.

So yes, Lynn, I sincerely hope your kiddo did better than mine today!

Well first, because it's a handicapped class, they told me no child comes to them potty trained so they just potty train all of them at the same time.

He did great today! No accidents at school. We got home at 3:20 p.m., I said - let's go potty! He said, No. At 3:30 p.m. I said, let's go potty, and he had - in his pants. At 3:40 I went to check on him - wet his pants again. I'm out of undies, they're all at school. So I put him back in a pull up. At 4 p.m. - he wet his pants again.

Why does he only do this at home?!

He does that at home because home is a more relaxed environment. School environment is more structured. We noticed this big-time with Isaiah. We take him to the washroom at least 8 - 10 times a night.

Good job with no accidents at school!

That makes sense. Plus, he feels like he can argue with me. He won't argue with his teacher. When I say, come on, let's go potty. He says no. I drag him to the potty, put him on it and leave him there for 15 minutes where he doesn't pee. Then he gets his pants on, goes into the other room, and pees in his pants. That sounds kind of spiteful to me.

I had that problem with my youngest for a while. In fact, when she's playing and having a real good time, that's when it's real bad.

I don't ask, I tell. And I let her make a scene and drag her to the bathroom. She'll grab herself like a baseball player or rap star and keep on playing. That's my cue.

andiesmama - October 17, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
Hey, when I did it with Andie, every 20 minutes like clockwork...I set the timer in the kitchen.

We'd go, she'd sit for a little bit. Whether she peed or not, the timer got set for another 20 min & back in we'd go.

Pretty soon I think she just got tired of sitting on the pot 3 times an hour, all day long....so she stopped with the accidents & started telling me when she had to go.

Good luck....I definitely think it's the structure thing. Just by him NOT having any accidents all day at school just goes to show you that he CAN do it....I mean, he DID go potty at school today, right? He didn't hold it all day did he??

Same here. Although lately....like just now...he came to ME and said, "washroom, mom!" So we went without a fuss. But if he holds it off for too long, I have to TELL him it's washroom time.

OK, I told you guys how that went over the summer, right?

I put him on the potty every 30 minutes, and he would wet in between. So then it was every 20 minutes, and he would wet his pants in between. I finally got down to putting him on the potty every 10 minutes, but he was still wetting his pants after he got off the potty! We went through 10 pair of underpants in one day.

Reminded me of a dog we had that was reverse house broken. She would ONLY pee on the carpet. Never outside.

Kid like that - I'd make him stay there 'til his bladder was empty. 'Course, it's not a fun time for the parents... :whip:

And Cow-Lady sounds like a drill sergeant!

"Washroom! NOW! Move it move it move it!!!"

LynnMcG - October 17, 2006 09:40 PM (GMT)
I'm leaning toward that naked version of potty training...can't remember what it's called.

You spend the whole day in a room with hard floors. You and your half naked kid. Make sure the room is chilly, and fill your kid with fluids. Supposidly, the first time they wet themselves and feel that wetness on their legs, they're trained.

Well Rachel my Third Oldest neice (My oldest sister Sheila's Second oldest child) had potty training issues.

She was almost 5 years old still in a diaper. Refused to let her self be potty trained. Sister had surgery she and my oldest nephew who was around thwo and a half or three at the time were staying with my parents and I. Mom got sick of it and tried to start potty training them both. They pottied all over themselves mom took them out back and pulled out the garden hose and hosed them down naked inthe back yard.... They were potty trained by the middle of the week..... from being hosed down Once each......
