Title: Nail Files
Honey - July 10, 2006 12:35 AM (GMT)
I've been sawing away at my nails with a metal nail filer. I do have some emery boards, but find they tug more! *shudders* So....do you ladies file your nails? Hmmm? :tease:
Also, do you buff them? Did mine today and they're naturally shinier now. B)

sorry....no help here....yannow I bite mine.... :thanks:
but the few times I HAVE filed my nails, I use the "softer" side of an emery board, I'm the opposite of you & can't handle the metal ones....

I don't file my nails at all.

I used to never file my nails, either. Just clipped them....but they always kept splitting! So I started filing with a metal file and noticed a big difference almost immediately. They were stronger and less prone to splitting. I'm sticking to filing! Less splittage! :nails:
And Deb.....EEEEEWWWW to biting! The ONLY time my nails make contact with my teeth is if it's really urgent. That is just a NASTY habit! :naughty:
Since we're on the NAILS topic....what about your kids? Do you push back their cuticles? Let them clip/file their own nails? Luke just lost a whole nail on his middle toe. *Shudders* I cannot STAND that sight! He clipped the entire nail off last night...he'd banged it good a few days ago. Kids. Now Isaiah....he reminds me of Deb. Constantly biting finger AND toe nails! His one thumb is bad....the cuticle needs pushing back, but I'm not allowed to touch it. :dunno:

I use those emery boards that are finer and are about an eights of an inch thick. Work much better for me.
As for losing a toe nail! I had to have one removed last year. Bloody mess! I was surprised at how much it bled...and the pain!! :( IT is almost grown back out now...
I cut my kids nails and I really don't pay attention to their cuticles...i really don't seem to have cuticles, so its not a problem

i also use the softer side of an emory board. it works much better than the metal file. and just the thought of the metal against my nail makes my skin crawl :yikes:
when i find time, i do like to buff mine. i have this thing that has like 3 sides to it, and it even tells you step 1, step 2, step3. it like smooths out edges, buffs, and shines. works pretty good. working in a hospital i'm forever washing my hands and my nails are horrible. but it ry to find time to take care of them.

I FOUND THAT PAYING SOMEONE ELSE TO DO THEM FOR ME WORKS JUST FINE  I USUALLY KEEP FAKE ONES ON SO I DON'T BITE....NO NEED TO FILE THEM EITHER. WORKS FOR ME! :D THE ONLY BAD THING IS THAT THE LAKE WATER SOMETIMES TURNS THEM A DIFFERENT COLOR....BUT PAINT ALWAYS FIXES THAT! :thanks:

yep Nikki.....I LOOOOOVE my acrylics! *sigh* Just don't have the money to get a set on right now, not to mention getting them filled every other week.... :bored:
I'll save up & we can go get 'em done together!! :nails: :SHANIA:
